To make one big family stand was a big mistake from the very beginning and now we are seeing empty seats in the same area week in week out.
No mate its not me and the kids leaving 17 seats empty next to me and covering them up with black netting at the front.its blocks of tickets not all families that carnt make it

Not a dig at families in any way but to dedicate such a big area of the ground specifically for families was an error in judgement. This why we see more empty seats during night games as well.

This is where I usually suggest the Bayern approach of requiring season card holders to attend at least half of the home games (or lose the right to a season ticket the following year).

I still think this is the relight approach although it does carry a risk of losing some revenue, particularly at a time when we are expanding the stadium.

That said, I would still give the Bayern approach a go as there can't be more than a couple of hundred season card holders who don't go to at least half the games. Nobody has a right to a season card - especially if they are just turning up for the Derby and maybe one ir two other games.

I pay for my season ticket the club get my money, what has it got to do with you if I go or not

Off the top of my head,

1) It's not just a financial transaction; there's implications for the atmosphere and match-day experience of everyone concerned.

2) Getting a season ticket is imho a privilege not a right. And with the privilege comes - again imho - some responsibilities, one of which is to turn up.

3) You are preventing someone else from going.

I am fortunate enough to be able to afford a season ticket without too much financial pain, but I don't get one because I know I wouldn't be able to go to that many games and I just don't think it's right for the reasons above.

I don't think anyone has a problem with a season ticket holder missing a few games a season. It's the people who have their ST every year and you never see their seat taken from one game to the next. That's what I have issue with. There's many ST holders who go to perhaps 5 games a season or less I reckon.

i know a sizeable chunk of this debate is about the family stand. i sit upstairs there and you can't see the seats downstairs at all from my seat. what i would say is that there don't seem to be many empty seats in level 2, not for league matches anyway (but maybe someone who can see the upper family stand will put me straight on that).

what i noticed yesterday was empty seats towards the front of the east stand. i used to sit towards the front of 105 - great view but i ended up moving to level 2 because of the amount of times i got absolutely soaked when it rained. if the roof did it's job properly i don't think there would have been so many empty seats there yesterday - i used to sit there and get soaked but i could understand when sometimes people didn't

Sorry, but you must contribute to everyone else's matchday experience. Chippy Boy is going to monitor you, to make sure that you also join in with the songs to his satisfaction! If not you will be ejected from the ground, as it's just not fair to spoil the experience & atmosphere for everyone else.

But, but, but, getting soaked, getting snowed on, getting windswept is all part of the match day experience. I got soaked yesterday, front row CBL1 in case there is anyone on here who doesn't know by now, and I didn't care because I've experienced the days when there was no cover whatsoever for fans. Come on man up, when did a little water hurt you?? ;-)

p.s. before anyone gets up in arms, I was just trying to lighten the atmosphere. It is getting a little heavy and let's face it we are never going to have a definitive answer to the perennial question: Why do we have so many empty seats. I rarely notice the empty seats but I did yesterday unfortunately but hey ho, I was there and I didn't think I would make it. So I am happy. :-)
