Enduring football myths & clichés

Empty seats , comedy club , won the 2nd half , richest club in the world cos they earnt it , an academy player in the squad for the 900th year on the trot ….. ect

Probably already been said, but the whole myth that utd under GPC played attacking/attractive/swashbuckling/caution to the wind football...

No, most of the time they actually played very similarly to the current utd side, sit back, absorb pressure then attack on the break with speedy wingers and strikers, only difference is they were better at doing it back then and had more of a work ethic to press the opposition.

I always thought that GPC was just a pragmatic manager. Don't recall him creating innovative tactics.

In the 80's and 90's players were quoted as saying that they would, "walk on broken glass", to sign for (insert boyhood fantasy club).

Seem to recall Geoff Thomas saying this about City, shortly before signing for Wolves!
Time hazes the memory but for some reason I remember reading in the M.E.N that he would "crawl on his hands and knees up the M1" to sign for City.
The lying bastard. XD
