From what I’ve read chillwell is fit, so I don’t understand why he didn’t go?
And to be honest, I think hed be great there. If we had Shaw fit he coukd play the left. Think Saka has also played there before? The only way Tront fits in is as right wing back in a 3-5-2.
Other than obvious club allegiances...What are the groups/factions within the squad? Basically, who are the friends? It use to be clear Rice/Madders/Chilwell/Mount were close, but most of them aren’t there. Curious if the social dynamics of this group are also affecting the football.
I’d play Rice in the back 3 if we’re doing this formation. And to be honest, I think hed be great there. If we had Shaw fit he coukd play the left. Think Saka has also played there before?
Wasnt it robson in italy 1990 who switched to a 3-5-2 after the players complained about the system and crap opening games?
Pickford
Walker stones guehi
TAA foden rice bellingham shaw
Kane Watkins
Too attacking for southgate.
He is also injury prone and hasn't had the best season, but at least he's an actual left-back! With some England experience too. I'd have taken him instead of Shaw and tried to find a way to get Mitchell in too. From what I’ve read chillwell is fit, so I don’t understand why he didn’t go?
Football aside, they seem to be missing some of the lightness/spirit/joy of previous years. Obviously, I have no real way to judge this. (I think maybe Grealish and Madders are a loss in this regard).Other than obvious club allegiances...
Bellingham and TAA are clearly close, I think TAA also has a long friendship with Ramsdale. In previous camps their group has also included Henderson and Maddison.
There's an old guard sort of friendship group of Stones, Walker, Kane, Trippier, Pickford (and Maguire when he was there).
Everyone seems to like Saka and Shaw.
Rice seems popular too, although he's without his best mate (Mount) and the two he said he'd been spending the most time with in the pre-tournament camp (Maddison and Grealish).
I expect there's also loose groups containing the younger players, and those newer to the England set-up.
