england squad (Merged)

On the Ledley King/Dawson front I can only assume Capello is concerned about Ferdinand's fitness and can't risk having a backup whose knee could flare up at any moment.

Reharding SWP and Johnson, I assumed both would miss out, however that was also assuming Walcott would make the team. If Walcott is missing out then I'd take Johnson over SWP.

so we have 3 right sided players swp, lennon, milner, and just joe cole who plays on the left (out of position). strange leaving the 1 only left sided player (AJ) out.

It seems to me that this squad was picked before the friendlies. Capello gave AJ no time to show what he can do because it would probably have caused him a headache had AJ put in a stellar performance. You can bet your bottom dollar that Englands 2 left sided players are Cole and Gerrard and was Capello ever going to put himself in a position where public opinion was so strong for AJ that he would have had to drop either one of them?
you cant play gerrard on the left.

agreed.

could benefit city in the long run AJ being left out, now he has had a taste of it, he will be itching to get back in the england squad for the euros.

Could work both ways. He could feel that he was not given a chance to prove himself and it could knock his confidence no end! I think he has been royally shafted by Capello!

In my opinion if you're taking Lennon as the right winger, Cole as the left winger and one more winger then surely Johnson should be going ahead of SWP, not only because he's better but because he can replace either winger if they get injured? Even Walcott has experience of playing left wing.

Not taking Walcott is a massive mistake in my opinion, his impact in the last 20 minutes of a game could have been decisive.

Warnock is another surprise as I'd have had Baines ahead of him. Having said that Baines looked very poor against Mexico but Warnock hasn't played internationally for 2 years so we have no idea what he'll be like.

Heskey over Bent is less surprising but still wrong in my opinion purely because Heskey is so bad.

why take 3 keepers, theyre are all very good keepers but it would open up another spot so its just a waste imo

I know that, you know that but history tells us that England managers dont know that!
