Southgate played him in the first two matches, so he clearly came into the tournament as first choice. He didn't have great games, and arguably isn't as suited to playing as part of a detached front three as Rashford, Sancho and Saka. Phil has played nearly all his games surrounded by passing options, so it's not a surprise that's not quite his game.
I suspect that Foden would have come on in the last game, if it wasn't for the yellow card.

this is my point 3 or 4 of englands best young talent are being wasted because of southgate using route one
we been crying out for players like foden grealish mount bellingham and the fuck clueless manager plays route one

Rashford is no a player in form, either for club or country. There is only one reason he's even at the Euro's and that's the club he plays for.Phil was picked for the first two games. Rashford was not. Sterling had a shit season and has been picked every game.
I'm saying he was ok - and I'd agree that Sako and Sancho haven't really set the world alight either. However, they do appear to fit in the system a little better.When you say he didn’t have a great game are you insinuating he wasn’t good?

if foden was playing for united he would be undroppable and not treated like he has under southgate

Agree completely.Played out of position and under restrictive orders. Was very unlikely to set the Euro's on fire playing under those conditions.
But then for years we complained that players were in the England team, out of position, and not able to play their "natural game". Phil will get chances, and it's up to him to show he can adapt, but I don't expect Southgate to be changing a team that's doing well to accommode him.

Now, stats don't tell us everything, and they tend to be skewed towards attackers, but whoscored have him as one of the top five players in the Bundesliga last season.
