It was a penalty, he was clipped then pushed. I thought it was a penalty when I saw it, everyone round me did and the ref agreed and VAR didn't overturn it. You can analyse it as much as you like but it was a penalty.

At the end of the day, England are in the first final of a tournament. Nearly every single person on here has NEVER seen that in their lifetime. Enjoy it, drink it in!

Southgate has proven a lot of people wrong in the Euros, he's been magnificent. We've had KK, Sven and Capello amongst others in the last 20 years and no one - NO ONE - has bettered Southgate in terms of getting to the final or building a team. He's not supposed to be a good manager, but the players like him and he's done something the "great" managers couldn't do.

Honestly, this might never happen again in your life. Enjoy it!! Get some good food in on Sunday, some great beers, let the kids stay up late and bloody well enjoy it. After the last year or so we've had, this is exactly what we need and there's plenty of people who'd passed on this last year who'd love to be watching it. Be thankful you're seeing your country in a final!

Even if we lose, it's to one of our own, one of the greatest ever managers - Mancini. If we lose to anyone, I'll take losing to an absolute legend of a manager and I'll happily take it!

Just ENJOY IT!

Great post mate, completely agree!

Best post here. Why some are so negative and driven to besmirch what Southgate and his squad have done is beyond me. Your post is exactly what everyone should be feeling. Bravo.

Perfectly put pal.

Anyone getting worked up about the booing that might happen before the national anthems on Sunday need to have a look at this lot, why are we even complaining about it when it's done the world over?

Finally the scousers booing their own national anthem.

Not going to restart the debate, and I'm absolutely sure everyone around you said "PENALTY!!" ;)
, but the fact that not 1 German ref said post match it should have stood given Raheem's movement gives me the feeling it was not as clear as you and most others would like it to be...

Anyway, more importantly I would like to add something about VAR.

It's going like this:
if the ref blows the whistle for penalty, VAR always makes a check.

AS soon as VAR confirm ANY contact, VAR is out of that discussion!
Reason is, VAR shall not assess the quality of the ref's decision but only intervene if the ref is obviously wrong (here: no contact at all).

When you say the fact "VAR didn't overturn" the ref is another point that it WAS a penalty doesn't stand, as VAR simply was not able to overturn the ref. It was impossible for VAR.

The ref didn't want to review, so his decision stood.

Italy fans boo’d the Spain National Anthem in their semi n’all.

It’s just part of trying to make some noise and atmosphere, fans trying to play their part in trying to intimidate the opposition.

National Anthems aren’t these sacred things, they’re just a collection of words (or not in Spain’s case) sung to a tune. They’re so unimportant, England doesn’t even feel the need to have a National Anthem.
