Any sane person who has watched Germany play recently would have lined up like that. Maybe you'd change out a player or two, but that shape and strategy is quite clearly the best way to get a result against Germany

So why didn't the defending champions do the same?

Lots of posts from people on here slating the England team, fans and anything to do with it. Don’t think thats an exaggeration

majority are. See a lot of comments from English fans on here who openly dislike England. Reality is that’s not reflected across the country

I think a lot of it is weariness of watching the team mainly underperform in tournaments then depart weakly for 40 years. I really hope they prove me wrong this time but we were absolutely shocking at the start of the game today, that wasn't tactics. We would have been 2 down against a top team I reckon. The management team have to get through to the players that 2-0 v Germany sounds great, but it was workmanlike only.
