England V Italy, Quarter Final 2012 (merged)

I can't believe what people are prepared to argue about on here. I'm another who thought England had no chance. During the Sweden match I was slagging Carroll off and calling him a donkey, then when Walcott came on I was saying he'd make no fucking difference. My mate laughed when both scored and asked me to moan about more England players. Last night I told the same lad that I couldn't stand Rooney, then I cheered when the scouse bastard scored.

I have however, wanted them to win since the start. I've got flags up, we've had mates round, drunk, eaten and had a ball. I've got my subbuteo Premier League trophy on the telly to remind me not to get too stressed out watching England. Now, I've started to dream that we can fluke our way to the final and bore the World to death before beating Spain on penalties. Am I a glory hunter?

i hope they win it but its unlikely and the worst case scenerio for any england fan was us getting knocked out in the quarters or semi's, meaningful change can only come from complete disaster

The last two tournaments have been as disastrous as it can get. Not qualifying for the Euros and then that abortion of a World Cup. Fuck all changed except City becoming Champions. Therefore I can now watch England peacefully and enjoy the ride.

I hope I don't come across as a Bertie, but we simply can't turn up against Italy with ten men, Welbeck has been on the pitch for 270 minutes and not managed a shot on target (not counting that flukey flick) not caused any problems to any defender one on one, and pretends to be chasing the ball until he gives up compleatly when defending. He is the most useless player I have seen in an England shirt, talk about the emporers new clothes. Ditch this passenger or we will get beaten, Carrol, Defoe please.

Hes been too passive just outside the box but his overall play has been good I thought, when he gets the ball he looks like one of the only england players with a decent amount of technical ability

Nearly all of Englands tournaments have been a disaster, the "golden generation" were a shambles, the way people go on about the national team is a joke, we won in 1966 and got to a semi final a few years back, hardly glorious.

not glorious but decent. mexico '86, italia '90, euro '96, japan/korea 2002 and euro 2004 were all ok performances.

Correct. It's only the media and those who are brainwashed by them who think we have been genuinely realistic contenders to win a major tournament.

So you don't think that you have had a squad of players that should have been genuine contenders to win a major tournament over the past 20 years?

Is the script written for a Mario penalty?

When we play Italy we know its going to happen, after all the videos and the hype about Mario's penalties and him scoring them all against Joe in training this season is the script written for an Italy penalty which Joe will save?

Hope not because im getting on Balo for 1st scorer at 7/1!
