Clearly you haven't got a fucking clue about football if you think all there is to a 4-4-2 formation is two banks of 4 and basically the same as any other 4-4-2.

There's many different managers out there employing 4-4-2's and each one will have their own variations on how they work.

are we playing 442 with 2 staright lines of four sitting deep yes or no? i was talking about how england are playing as this is what the thread is about, if you think england are playing well or scraping through games is progress then it is your football knowledge that is shit

your a typical clueless england fan that has no idea how the game should be played

good luck with the rest of the tournament though

Maybe we needed the tactics that Russians, Dutch, Swedish, Croatians employed ?

So far our tactics have made us unbeaten and topped our group, your the typical clueless england fan mate not us, bet you cant wait for us to lose so you can tell everyone how much you hate England and how shit they are. Pathetic

or maybe we could try and play in a different way with tactics more suited to give our players a better chance? have you been watching england long? can you not see it hasnt been working? you are utterly clueless if you think this is the right way to do things

Different way with different tactics you say?

We've tried that with the last god knows how many managers.

Under Capello we tried and failed. Why? Because, as it stands, we dont have the players.

Bringing Richards into the team, despite the fact it should have been done, wouldnt alter the way we play.

WHAT???

Tevez's golf practice was a consequence of his actions when he refused to go 'on the pitch.

If you take the stance of 'I couldn't care less what someone does off the pitch, it's about what he does on it', then why the need for Terry to get humiliated or for Rooney to play shit/get injured etc?

I'm fairly sure England fans did back their team from the start, maybe not to win it, but to back them none the less.

I don't back Oldham to get promoted next year. Yet, if we find ourselves in the top 2 in April then I will.

I've not said I want Rooney injured, on the contrary I said he was England's best striker and should play.

Terry abused Ferdinand on the pitch(allegedly), and I also don't think he's better than Rio or Jagielka and has stopped several players being called up because of his incident with Anton.

That's why.

What you're basically saying is you'll stop supporting Oldham till they reach the Prem and then bring all the flags out and start supporting them again, like the Rags really.

Tevez works hard on the pitch and scores goals, whether he's a **** off it or not doesn't matter for those 90 minutes.

And like I've said before, by its very nature the national team represents the people and therefore it should be picked on merit, completely different to the club game where it comes down to personal choice.

You're saying because I don't back us to get promoted next season but if we're in the top 3 in April, I will, I'm suddenly of the 'gloryhunter' material?

There's a difference between realism and blind optimism. I'll support Oldham when we're in League Two (which is more likely than the Championship at the moment) or the fucking BSP, just because I see no chance in seeing us promoted this season, to suddenly find myself getting all excited should we be top2 in April doesn't make me a part of the bandwagon jumping ilk.

no I'm comparing it to the "if we win on sunday then people will celebrate in the pubs and all the St. George's flags will come out" either you or Mark made.

Which is the same as saying unless your team does brilliantly you won't support them, which is like the Rags.

Why weren't they all out at the start of the tournament? why are people suddenly getting interested? Selective Patriotism is the worst kind of fan.

The truth is im an England fan, i watch and support my country - hoping we win, i dont care about the tactics and i couldnt give a shit if he played crouch in goal and carlton cole left wing... i couldnt give a shit if richards is dropped for Johnson, that we are not passing like spain, that parker needs to turn into messi ... all i care about is we win game and progress and thats exactly what were doing

Its the tactical genius's like yourself that are winding me up, a win will be followed by a over the top analysis of how we should be doing better, that so and so is shit and needs to be dropped, that the manager is clueless ... the negativity from some people is truely depressing and the hatred some feel will over ride any achievements that will make

this might be a stretch for you but you do realise that a football team that plays good football will ultimately be more successful than one that doesnt, you can grasp that concept cant you?

for the record i havent slagged off one player this tournament, i want england to win everytime they play, i have watched every euro's and world cup since 78, we just arent learning and since venables went its getting more and more depressing and fans like you and the media dont help

Yes, they played 442. Capello also tried 451. Earlier managers didn't because such a formation wasn't all that prominent years ago.

I'm saying we haven't got the players the likes of Spain, Germany & Holland have. We lack flair, creative and confidence on the ball.

Hodgson has come in, put his plan into place with the players at his disposal at short notice and got them playing, as a team. Something England haven't done for a while.

I'd like to think in a few years time when the likes of The Ox, Wilshere, Welbeck, Sturridge and whoever else has a few more years experience in them that the team will change and improve. Until then, we can only use what we have. and what we have at the moment, isn't brilliant, hence the 'not-so-brilliant' performances.

The thing that's annoying me about you football manager fans, is that you sit there behind your computer screen with your cup of tea and your bourbon biscuits calling people like Hodgson and people who, in a way, are supportive of his methods, clueless, yet just what capacity do you work in, or what knowledge do you have, that can back up whatever tactical ideas you have?

I dont proclaim to be the font of footballing knowledge, hence my passion for football sticks with me in a supporter capacity and that I have a desk job and not a nice office in London with the title 'England Head Coach', but I can understand why a certain manager uses his own methods to mould the team in his way because, lets face it, they have a damn site more knowledge about the game than me or you football manager fans have.

I hope I don't come across as a Bertie, but we simply can't turn up against Italy with ten men, Welbeck has been on the pitch for 270 minutes and not managed a shot on target (not counting that flukey flick) not caused any problems to any defender one on one, and pretends to be chasing the ball until he gives up compleatly when defending. He is the most useless player I have seen in an England shirt, talk about the emporers new clothes. Ditch this passenger or we will get beaten, Carrol, Defoe please.

so they all played 442 so you were wrong then

I'm saying we haven't got the players the likes of Spain, Germany & Holland have. We lack flair, creative and confidence on the ball.

rooney, young, gerrard, chamberlain, carrick, sturridge can all be creative given the chance

Hodgson has come in, put his plan into place with the players at his disposal at short notice and got them playing, as a team. Something England haven't done for a while.

hes not got them playing hes got them defending

i have stated we arent playing well

ive never played football manager, i drink coffee and have no bourbons, are you saying you need coaching badges to tell a team to stay compact with two lines of four, its not abstract thinking

I dont proclaim to be the font of footballing knowledge, hence my passion for football sticks with me in a supporter capacity and that I have a desk job and not a nice office in London with the title 'England Head Coach', but I can understand why a certain manager uses his own methods to mould the team in his way because, lets face it, they have a damn site more knowledge about the game than me or you football manager fans have.

hodgson is the right man to keep fulham up, or get a international side out of a group, you can get to a certain point with discipline but only so far, already this tournament will be seen as a relevant success which shows how low we have sunk, unfortunately this means we will carry doing what we have been doing, playing shite and hoping our spirit gets us through, pretty sad really
