England v Italy

Things have certainly improved going forward and England are playing a better brand of football but if the aim is to be truly competitive at major tournaments there's a lot of work to do at the back and in the defensive midfield areas. For a coach who apparently is widely regarded as being tactically astute Hodgson seemed more pre-occupied with where to play Rooney than sorting out the obvious problems.

Sterling is a cracking little player and I am still fucking annoyed at clueless for letting Studge go. Didnt think we were terrible last night and on that evidence we can beat both Uruguay and CR to go through.....if Roy uses his loaf.

Jimmy Milner would have offered more down that left side than either Rooney or Wellbeck, through industry more than anything else - at least Baines would have had a little disciplined cover. Oh well, onto the next.

Media been put on message. The mollycoddling of Shrek is sickening.

Think we gave them too much time on the ball and the defence first movement was backwards.
Playing a lot better going forward though. Just need to get that final ball right.

Just hoping we don't bow a out with a flop now.

Who else celebrated when sterling hit the side netting! The pub I was in went mental with beers flying everywhere. We all felt like right twats.

I took a minute for the whole pub to realise it was still 0-0. Got drenched for no reason at all.
i noticed that it didnt go in but everyone else went mad, but the scoreline actually flashed up with ''goal'' !

That's the usual problem. Put in a great performance, but still draw or lose against a good team, then go shit against the weaker teams and bow out with another draw. But we're passing it around a lot better. In the past, we tended to do okay against the bigger teams, because we were well organised and solid, but couldn't string three passes together, so we looked toothless going forward against weaker teams. Now we've sacrificed some of that defensive prowess and we look a lot more comfortable on the ball. If nothing else, at least I enjoy watching us now. Last night's game was really entertaining.

That old chestnut.

Get over it, Hughes never let Sturridge go, he went because HE wanted more money than City would pay him. It was his choice, City offered him 50k a week at what 20. No he wanted more, was he worth more at the time, not for me he wasn't.

His last game v WBA he spent more time on his arse and those who were at the game laughed at him.

Decent performance with our attacking players looking dangerous when given space, but our midfield was just too weak. Henderson and Gerrard were cut open time and time again. Baines is no Ashley Cole and we look like conceding. In the second half we were lucky that Italy had no attacking threat.

I see lots of people are going on about us not having enough technical ability etc. That's just not true with the current players. Technical ability is not the problem. Quite frankly it's absurd to claim that the likes of Sturridge, Chamberlain, Barkley, Sterling, Wilshere or Gerrard technically deficient. Our probelms go much deeper than that. The team lacks balance and our defence is weak. On the plus side with Uruguay losing we should make it out of the group and we will have a chance against either Colombia or Ivory Coast from what I have seen.
