England v Italy

Though the conditions were better than expected England still struggled to adapt and despite a more positive performance Italy still controlled the game. The Uruguay game will be difficult but it is the Costa Rica game will be even more.

issues from last night:

1) wrong people in the wrong position. It had to be someone energetic and disciplined on the left, if not Sterling then you just have to pick Milner.
2) Rooney should be nowhere near an England shirt, it's now becoming disgraceful and England fans must see why so many people are now disillusioned with their national team and prefer club football.
3) Guys like Barkley will not develop quickly unless you give them the responsibility and the opportunity to learn and shine, I'd much rather have had Barkley in from the start and let him make a few errors trying and learning than Wayne who's had all the chances anyone could wish for and still played shit, thus not helping us in any way shape or form, at least if it had been Barkley he'd have been learning and gaining valuable experience.
4) It's clear that lifestyle plays a key role and a number of England players were just unfit and embarrassed by the Italians. That comes down to diet, nights out and general conditioning, that was pathetic last night, no other team has made such a farce of it so far, it's no surprise how generally fit (know we've had injuries) City have been with first an Italian fitness coach, and then a Spaniard. We are lagging way behind on general fitness and conditioning.

We had a major problem last night with just far too much long range shooting, with not nearly enough looking for a pass when in the final third. We were connecting well with the long shots, but they weren't from positions where they could realistically score. All our most genuinely threatening attacks came when we actually tried passing it or getting in down the sides and laying it across the box. All the young players may well have looked exciting, running at people and being direct, but they need to get their heads up, all far too individual and far too predictable.

Defensively we are shite. No balance to the midfield, unreasonable burden on Henderson to somehow cover everyone while Gerrard just struts around doing fuck all. You can't play a front 4 and not have any of them track back at all, then have only one of your 2 midfield players not doing any defending either. Neither of our fullbacks can defend either, but we don't exactly have many options in those positions who aren't even worse defensively

Lose against Uruguay and it is the case of don't bother unpacking.

To be fair, Uruguay look like the worst team at the WC so far, except maybe Cameroon. I'd be amazed if we don't give their incredibly slow defenders a torrid time

We did ok but it was all a bit huff and puff and Italy looked like they had a lot more craft and guile, though we did threaten at times. After they got the second they sat back, slowed it down and pretty much asked us what we had got to offer, but we didn't come close. Wouldn't surprise me if we run out of steam and uruguay do us tbh.

Shame we lost but we can still go through. A couple of years ago I watched England vs Italy in a shit hole pub with a load of rag nobs foaming at the mouth at balotelli all game. Not gonna lie, when mario got that second I had a little smile to myself thinking about the same nobheads in the same pub

I predicted a 2-1 win for us pre-match and said I thought we were the better team.

Last night showed me we are the better team.

Had Hodgson been man enough to fuck Rooney off and play our best 11 rather than trying to accommodate the fat has-been **** we'd have won the game.

Rooney was fucking atrocious and that miss was unforgivable. Clearly nowhere near fit or sharp enough. Every time the camera was on him he looked like a 40 a day pub player after a full day on the ale.

Hodgson clearly didn't have the bollocks to leave the untouchable one out. The panel's excuses and constant fawning over him was also sickening.

Other than that I thought we were comfortably the better side with everyone playing well. Sterling was immense and Italy didn't know what to do with him. Another game like that and the likes of Madrid will be very interested.

We've definitely got enough quality to win the other 2 games and should get out of the group.
