England v Italy

If Hodgson insists on playing Rooney stick him behind Sturrage something like this!

__________Sturrage__________
__Milner__Rooney__Sterling__
___Gerrard_____Henderson___
If anything Milner should take gerrards place. Need either Barkley or lallana further forward.

Yeah agree but if Hodgson won't drop Rooney he won't drop Gerrard either so that's what we have as a team, shame really but that's the make up of England managers of past and now

Sturridge left marking thin air.
No one within 15 yards of Marchiso
No reason to let Marchisio unmarked.

Who else celebrated when sterling hit the side netting! The pub I was in went mental with beers flying everywhere. We all felt like right twats.

Yeh we did the same! Took about 30 seconds to realise it hadn't gone in.
Haha. Did the same. Couldn't understand why sterling was being so cool.

if woy grew a pair of bollocks , he would drop gerrard, johnson and rooney , all three of the so called experienced players let us down , but it wont happen , so it looks like i will be rooting for , kun, zabs and DMC for the argies , after wednesdays game

Thought we did well in spells but we have no quality finishers at all. Italy were no great shakes, slightly better than us, and we had chances but no finishers.

Baines and Johnson are never international full backs. We have nobody to rival Johnson and to be fair to him at least he got in some good positions yesterday, but Baines is just an average player in my opinion, he is still behind Ashley Cole but the fans and media pressure to drop the "older players who've never done it"(absolute bullshit when it comes to Cole who has been England's best performer since Gascoigne, even if he is getting on a bit now) finally got rid of Cole for the overrated Baines. There's a huge reason why at 30 Baines never has and never will play for a top side.

Then neither of them got enough protection defensively from Sterling Welbeck and especially Rooney. In the end that's where we lost the game as Welbeck didn't help Baines out, Baines can't defend and the cross was perfect under no pressure.

Other than that we did alright. We played some good direct stuff at times and we caused them problems. I think there is an inherent thing with English players as well that they don't have enough confidence in themselves to express themselves fully.

I think we can beat Uruguay though with slight tweak in tactics/formation and more confidence.

Bang on about Baines. His strength is overlapping and delivering quality crosses. To then play him behind Rooney where he is going to be left exposed and essentially have to defend is very poor management.
If Roy knew he would play this then cole is the only option. A left back in the very sense of the word. Defence first.
