Thought we did well in spells but we have no quality finishers at all. Italy were no great shakes, slightly better than us, and we had chances but no finishers.
Baines and Johnson are never international full backs. We have nobody to rival Johnson and to be fair to him at least he got in some good positions yesterday, but Baines is just an average player in my opinion, he is still behind Ashley Cole but the fans and media pressure to drop the "older players who've never done it"(absolute bullshit when it comes to Cole who has been England's best performer since Gascoigne, even if he is getting on a bit now) finally got rid of Cole for the overrated Baines. There's a huge reason why at 30 Baines never has and never will play for a top side.
Then neither of them got enough protection defensively from Sterling Welbeck and especially Rooney. In the end that's where we lost the game as Welbeck didn't help Baines out, Baines can't defend and the cross was perfect under no pressure.
Other than that we did alright. We played some good direct stuff at times and we caused them problems. I think there is an inherent thing with English players as well that they don't have enough confidence in themselves to express themselves fully.
I think we can beat Uruguay though with slight tweak in tactics/formation and more confidence.
