Thought that was Rice best game so far this comp, more box to box and carrying the ball like he does for us Hammers

as for the media, I have no idea if they're giving him enough credit or not - don't care either way
Depends what you think a DM is for. My view is they are there for three things - turning over the ball when we don't have it/protecting the defence, always being available as an outball for your defence, providing forwards/am with the ball.
I think Rice does the first of those well enough but not the other two. Its doubtful he would fit into a City team as he lacks the technical skills and football intelligence. Can see him going to United or Chelsea. Fwiw, I have been very underwhelmed by Rice performance this WC although it may be I misunderstand what Southgate is trying to do with a midfield that consists of Henderson, Rice and Bellingham.

I don't think Phil has reached his potential or anywhere near with England and sadly, he may never reach it unless England start to use more technically developed players. It would be interesting to see him with Maddison.

you need a bit of football intelligence and I think sadly that is missing in Rice. He would fit in at Salford, which is where I think he might go.

As far as Phil is concerned, I wish he could impose himself on this WC like Mbappe has. He must get frustrated as he thrives in tight spaces and doesn't have anyone around him that can exploit that. Time and again I see him making himself available for a sharp pass into feet and a safer pass to someone else is chosen. People ask why he cant replicate his City form for England when the answer to that is obvious.

Mbappe strikes were unreal yesterday but he is getting played into positions that he can demonstrate his ability. In the main Phil isn't.
This, which is why I'd rather see him more central just for the fact he'll see more of the ball instead of stuck out wide hoping one of the midfielders gets their head up and then can actually pick him out.

All the fans around me last night in the Al Bayt marvelling at Phil's skills and wishing he was one of theirs at club level. Makes you even prouder to know you see this week in and week out and we reap the benefits. Player of the tournament if we go all the way but just remember how bias I am. Didn't get back to base camp in Al Janoub til 02-30 and on waking an hour ago my phone has just received my France quarter final ticket. Now downloaded I am 1 seat away from last night's. We only "officially" had approx 3,500 sold through FA for last night. This is a top ride and I ain't getting off.

Apart from what Saddleworth blue highlighted about Rice not making himself available at times,(which he has been guilty of in other matches too)he played pretty well imo.
Senegal pressed quite well in the 1st half, so mixing things up and going long sometimes worked.
As a neutral I’d go along with this.
Early on you had no out ball into midfield.
That first quick flick from Foden to Kane turned Senegal for the first time. Once you got your first goal, I said it at the time, but you were always going to find the game easier.
Rice doesn’t do that kind of link up under the high press, but overall I thought he played the DM part quite well. He dispossessed their attack many times.
You can see he’s not as creative as Bellingham.
Henderson shouts a lot. Maybe he is the old head out there trying to organise things. Can he? Does he see the problems? Does he see the game like we are used to?
I don’t know generally, but he wasn’t bad last night…… once that first goal went in and after all he is the one that got in the box on the end of the movement.

England vFrance is a tasty prospect. It could go either way. Depends on the belief England show in their own ability.

Declan Rice is a big issue for me

Hence why england started to go long

He doesnt show for the ball or build play

Horribly overated

he's protecting the back 4

giving Bellingham more of a free role

has been making vital interceptions and tackles and closes down loads of areas on the pitch

a big reason we're not conceding and barely letting opposition trouble us

''I feel like everyone needs to start giving us the credit. Every time we win a game, people try to pick apart something and if it was another nation they would be talking about how it was a masterclass performance. I think that was us tonight.'

What a weird view of what security is. You really think that someone would do what they did if they saw a security guard on duty? Think ‘fuck it’ can see they have a guy watching with a direct line to the police and every move they make is being watched?
Armed wankers don’t go to a house heavily protected. They go to houses with no protection. If you’re going to victim blame at least understand how the real world works. Dickhead.

What a weird post. Where am I victim blaming?

What’s a heavily protected house genius? Having 10 snipers and a dozen dogs?

You do realise that these footballers live in the countryside in remote areas, you really think having a direct line to the police (is it the number 999 by any chance?) will mean that they get there before the armed wankers have left?

They are in an out in less than 10 minutes, you try ringing the police and getting that response living in an urban setting let alone a remote one.

I live in the real world pal and unless you have your house like Fort Knox with heavily armed guards, some super duper security system and a man in a car outside is not going to stop four armed wankers with nothing to lose and everything to gain getting what they want.

Otherwise why do so many high end earners get robbed despite having the best security money and the law can provide?
