This was a WC we had no chance of winning. We should have used it as an opportunity to skip a generation (the failed so called golden generation). We should have blooded Barkley, Lallana and co properly - and whilst we have blooded a few young players Roy's obsession with Gerard and Rooney has undermined the opportunity. England need a radical rethink - we cannot keep stumbling along like this looking for quick fixes. We need a young strong appointment - someone with vision and guts.

There's grass roots and there's mere participation. I've coached too.

But grassroots is where our players come from in the UK n to say that its for kids that arent good enough is disrespectful. Its from where all academies r built.

Jeez it was an off the cuff comment. I admit I'm a bit elitist when it comes to sport and nurturing talent. In my opinion a lot of FA money is wasted and spread too wide with the emphasis on participation. In my experience that's what the FA mean when they say grassroots.
