Indeed. My gripe would be the tactical instructions. For instance, there’d be no point of Rice and Henderson if they don’t drop/stay deep appropriately or make themselves available for a pass if they want to pass out from the back or go short.

It’s about finding the balance. If Rice and Henderson are playing together, you need fullbacks that are good going forward. Playing two solid midfielders leaves you short going forward. Just look at City. I see our tactics as three/four defenders and the rest are attack minded. Rodri, the two centre backs and one full back (normally Walker). Playing Rice and Henderson with Walker and Chilwell means you have six players that aren’t really going to contribute much up top. Alexander Arnold could solve some of that problem, but his form this season doesn’t warrant him a place in the England team. He could drop either Rice or Henderson out and drop either Grealish or Foden back which allows a place for Sancho. But I don’t think Southgate has got the balls to do that.
