English Players

I think we have to move away from nationality in terms of players and use the term academy players, and the ideal age to sign them is at least three years before their 21st birthday. If we manage to get some English players coming through good if they are from Manchester even better.

This is the way to win the CL and this is the way I expect we will do our business going forward.

I am a HUGE proponent of having at least 1/3 of your squad being from the country of the league.

Developing homegrown talents is vital to success of the country, the economy and the league.

England will NEVER fix its NT issues if big teams dont start using more homegrown talent.

Of course, this is a very simplified explanation, but true.

Does EPL not have rules that require a certain number of homegrowns on a roster? Or "non-eu" purchase limits like Serie A for example?

Problem is they aren't good enough. England doesn't develope a large number of really talented players. Maybe you would rahter have a weakened team and have no shot at CL just to satisfy a nationalistic need but I'm not. I don't care what country a players from. I don't care what color he is. If he's good and not a douchbag I want him on the team.

This is how I think about it too. The FA always try to blame Premier league clubs for the lack of quality in the English national team but it is far more their own fault, and even the media's fault. The FA are the ones who appoint the useless coaches at every level of the national team setup, the media are the ones who hype up every promising British player so much that the clubs in the lower leagues try to charge double what they are actually worth. Also we are the only national team that rushes 18-19 year old players into the senior team so quickly. For example, Alex O.C. didn't get to play in the U21 Euros because Woy wanted him sitting on the bench for England's friendlies and WC Qualifiers.

Also who do the FA blame for the lack of English coaches in the Premier league? I'm sure that's the fault of the Premier league clubs too, but who trains the coaches? And why is there literally no English coach that I would be excited about taking over the national team? In fact if I had to choose one, it would probably be Pardew, which says it all.

I think we have some great English players in Richards, Hart, Lescott, Barry and Milner but we could do with a few more. I'm know that Guidetti is home grown and club trained and Clichy is another homegrown foreign player but I still think we could do with more Englishmen. As we are looking for another centre back and will be looking to replace Lescott soon Cauker seems like a really good solution but levy is a twat when dealing with signing his players. Again Barry fits into this category of a player that can still do a job but soon will be past it. Other than that I can't think of many English players if like us to buy as we don't have much quality and the few that aren't wearing the city colours will be hard to sign. Personally of like to see Shaw, McCarthey and Ince sign as young players who can settle into the squad and develop with us but can't really see it happening.

rhodes has proven he is a goal scorer would like to see him move up to the prem first though
Doesn't he kinda demonstrate the problem though? £8m for a League One player moving to a Championship club. Imagine how much he'd cost by the time he was proven in the Premier League.

Wilshire is the only player I can think of that I think is potentially world class. Obviously some others might emerge (Rodwell, hopefully) but he's the only one that shows that potential atm.

Get Harry Maguire in from Sheffield United to be our 4th CB. The lad is absolute quality, he's been the best CB in League 1 for two years in a row and has still only just turned 20. Decent on the ball, dominant in the air and already a real leader, he's going to be a premier league player sooner or later, just as soon as someone takes the chance on him. He's a far better player than Lowton was, who had no problems at all with the leap.

Never heard of him but a quick google search points to him looking interesting.

Apart from players already at a top4/5 team (wilshere etc) there's only 1 player i can think of that could come in and have a genuine role to play in the squad we have. Luke Shaw

There are a few decent English youngsters but the majority are overhyped and overpriced.

so as EPL fans and citizens of GB, who is at fault for this?

The fees for English players is insanity. Literally, insane. Why is this happening? Of course if a kid comes up, plays well, gets a 30m pricetag slapped on him at 18, he will likely fail because he already has the weight of the world and the british media on his shoulders.

why does it seem to outsiders, that brit media sabotages its own players?
