I never suggested that they should sell him.

I was just highlighting that signing someone for 18million euros and demanding 120million euros 6months later take the piss just as much as Chelsea pretending that they are gonna pay it.

Benfica want what is best for them and Chelsea want what is best for Chelsea, its all fair.

Not quite sure what you were reading into.

They aren't taking the piss, they just don't want to sell him.

They're not asking for €120m, that's just the figure someone will have to pay in order to give Benfica no choice.

In a real world nobody should pay £120m for any football player but football is a world of it's own with transfer fees and salaries that are both ridiculous and outrageous.
Nobody should pay £120m for Enzo Fernandez but there is a chance someone will, sadly.

They’re in a position where they don’t want to sell, and have no need to sell.

He’s six months into a five year contract, and it won’t have been in their plans to sell him after such a short time - so I’d imagine the process of considering replacements won’t have been on their agenda yet.

He’s got a €120m release clause, which the player and his agent clearly agreed to include in his contract - and Benfica are saying we don’t want to sell, but if you pay his clause we’ve got no choice.

There’s no ambiguity or piss taking to a clear contractual clause, and knowing Benfica have no interest in selling at the moment, I’d say Chelsea are taking the piss way more by trying to haggle on a clear and unambiguous clause.

Their decision at the moment is not to sell. If Chelsea want to take the decision out of their hands, it’ll cost them €120m

Everything which isn't bold is clearly self explanatory.

It's simple opinion it they are taking the piss with a high price release clause and imo there business model of setting rediculous prices on players they payed hardly anything for purely to pull the pants down of the other European clubs takes the piss. Each to their own on that one.

Theres no way he's worth 120m just like Felix wasn't worth 140, many people said levy was taking the piss with the Kane transfer. This is no different.

Fair enough - not an opinion I agree with, but that’s what the forums all about!

In my view - if player and agent agree to a clause, and it’s clearly written into their contract, then I don’t see the justification for a potential buyer (or anyone else for that letter) complaining that holding the player to the contract they signed is ‘taking the piss’.

Chelsea paid a similar amount for Lukaku - who they farmed out on loan after a single season - and paid about £65m for Cucurella. Who is self-evidently absolute shite.

I’d say expecting £105m from the same club for a player they don’t want to sell, who just won Young Player of the tournament at the World Cup, is pretty reasonable in that context.

But each to their own.

This is just my gripe with transfer fees these days, we have now reached a time where transfers over 100million is deemed to be the norm. It's insanity. Respect your opinion though.
 
Chelsea had to give a 7 and half year deal to that defender because they could fall foul of ffp so how in gods earth can they afford a player for 120m plus a contract!?

And I don’t disagree with you that the fee in itself is bonkers.

My point is more that Benfica are perfectly entitled to hold the player and his agent to a contract they willingly signed just 6 months ago - and Chelsea can’t expect a club that clearly doesn’t want to sell to do them any favours, and give them a discount on the amount they’re contractually entitled to.

Fees have completely untethered themselves from reality now though, and are operating in some parallel universe where apparently £100m is relatively small change for kicking a ball around every few days.

Chelsea have contributed to this lunacy though, so they can’t really start complaining about it now it doesn’t suit them.

As have we with Grealish, to be fair!
 
I am surprised Benfica haven't taken the 85m. A huge profit for them and allows them to reinvest in several others they can sell in 12mths.

Enzo is hardly going to lead Benfica to the CL and his stock will probably never be higher.
 
so last night I watched a benfica game from start to finish to see what the hype is all about focusing only on what enzo was doing. and my God was this man incredible. while for argentina he played as a 6, for benfica he plays like a deep lying box to box playmaker. one moment he was high up the pitch playing through ball like KDB and within 60 seconds he was in the midfield line skipping past challenges and playing a line breaking pass like modric. other times he was sitting at the base of the midfield receiving pass form the defenders and spraying passes around like toni kroos. he also worked tirelessly in the middle breaking up the opposition play. in midst of all this he found a way into the box to finish of a move and score a goal like gundogan.

that was a ridiculous display of midfield dominance from enzo and now I see what the hype is all about. he will be a perfect midfielder for us if we decide to go for him. infact if enzo and bellingham were available for nearly the same price I will take enzo any day everyday. i have never seen bellingham dominate a game like that. i will say that if both enzo and bellingham have similar coaching and teammates from now on in their career I believe enzo will become a far better player no doubt. 120 will be easily worth it for a talent like enzo. I will go as far to say he is the most complete midfielder I have seen in my life at the age of 21. just ridiculous!

I would say midfield has quickly turned from the strongest to our biggest problem area. Jorginho is a bottleneck on this team. He is a huge hindrance to the defence and him being there makes the defence 10x harder. Kante is basically never around these days. And also both of them are out of contract in the summer. Kovacic is injury prone himself and misses way too many games.

That brings us to RLC and Gallagher. RLC is probably the most injury prone player in the team and is out again now despite having the entire world cup to get fit and Gallagher really looks like he doesn't belong in this Chelsea team. I had high hopes for him, and obviously willing to keep giving him chances but he has struggled massively with the passing game. Zakaria has been great but he's just on loan.

So yeah, I'd say with a midfield in tatters, we aren't able to dominate and impose ourselves on any game. Every game is a slugfest because we can't dominate the midfield. Addressing that is the most important thing for me.

My guess is that is why they don't want to pay the release clause up front and why they tried to haggle because paying the release clause meant they had to literally hand over 120m on the spot in one go.
