A manager quitting doesn't usually take his whole backroom staff with him.

The club board don't meet to decide his future.

He was clearly looking for it though, and not exactly behaved well in that.

The key question is what City said. If they just asked whether the fallout meant Maresca might be on the market in the forseeable future then it is in no way tapping up.

If, on the other hand, they said if you orchestrate your way out of your well paid Chelsea job we will get rid of the best and most successful manager the Premier League has ever seen just to give you a position then that probably would be.

Which scenario sounds the more likely to you?

I don't know what happened between City-Maresca-Chelsea but some Chelsea connected Chelsea journalists have commented on the matter.



I don't know whether this is the cause of the delay in appointing Maresca, but I am wary that it might be. With City's current relationship with the PL, the club has to consider these claims. They may be baseless, but questions have been raised.

If there is a delay in appointing Maresca, and a claim is made that there are matters to tie up. Then it is worthy of consideration.

Chelsea’s hedge fund wankers will want to drag this out as long as possible typical Americans thinking they can get big money compensation! They’ll believe they’ve missed out on champs league because of it and probably say if he wasn’t tapped up we kept Maresca odds are we get champs league and means we missed out on a possible 150m! It’s how Americans think in business!

Oh it’s those same American owners who wanted us out of contention by whinging to the premier league that much they started the investigation into our financials! I hate the way they have affected the premier league! Oh it’s only going to get worse!

Except that ultimately the fanny merchants were proved right and City were always playing catch-up and never got the chance to get a few points ahead and test Arsenal

If Maresca was always the plan then he needs installing as soon as possible and given the required support network.

Yes but what’s the context to that compensation!? Did he have a buyout amount of his contract or just we need to pay the rest of Maresca contract up? Or we know is it’s the first time any club has complained to the premier league about it! Why’s that? Do they want a premier club meeting to vote on something? It’s a dangerous precedent for me..

I'm sure we will as we seem to be that sort of club to give their word. But a question must have been asked is Maresca really worth all of this hassle. If you want a smooth transition as possible for football operations this doesn't seem to be it.

City legal team will have had a full view of his contract and there might be outstanding issues with how the termination was set one issue could be he was put on gardening leave I would expect that will expire at end of June, the standard cut off point for football contracts

Chelsea may have evidence that City approached him whilst he was their manager which is in breach of PL rules, but it happens all the time and so would be difficult to enforce

Ultimately Enzo is free to seek work, it's a right we all have, yes contracts can restrict the right on paper but would be difficult to enforce in law. Look, at how Arteta was recruited by Arsenal when he was under contract at City

My guess would be is that City are speaking to Chelsea to come up with a clean and amicable break I dont see any rush as the players are away, he will be able to work with Hugo on transfers and plan the pre season and return post world cup with his staff.

All depends what the agreement was when he left in terms of severance pay or compensation either way but could imagine he may be on 'gardening leave' for six months, which would mean he couldn't join us until 1st July. I seem to recall one of the first reports in the week Pep left suggesting Maresca would join in July, and considering those reports seemed to come from Maresca's side, we could be in for a bit of a wait still.

Since we're linked with no one else, I still think it's happening and nothing to stop him doing some unpaid thinking in advance.
