Eric Clapton

This, I always think of him as an upmarket Status Quo, he can obviously play but takes blues guitar to a safe boring level.
Yep, as saddleworth2 said his best / most edgy stuff was probably with cream. Seems to have spent forever in that sort of 'rock legend' category selling out the Albert hall to mums and dads.

Never been a big fan but I am currently half way through his autobiography.
A common theme in his early career was to move on from bands a little bit prematurely for the sake of his personal musical evolution.

He was right in the middle of the scene and well respected by his piers that’s for sure.

My sister worship’s the man and his music.

I'm not a guitarist, I do like Claptons music though agree that his solo stuff is a mixed bag, but a lot of the greats rated him, including Hendrix, so I would say yes. He was that good Harrison let him get off with his bird to force him into playing on his songs up until his death as payback. And now they are both playing together in the great amphitheatre in the sky RIP.

Does Eric have a jet pack?

For a 'bluesman' Clapton's personal struggles at the end of the 60s and start of the 70s must have helped. As a human being, not so sure. I never bothered with him until I saw a brilliant BBC4 documentary a few months ago. He went through some troubling times in his childhood (maternal rejection) and then in his personal relationships. He is likened to BB King and I am sure there are strong similarities based around playing what you like to play to a level that is well beyond out mortals on the guitar (myself very much included).
I have been listening to Layla a lot, it is a fine piece of work from a clearly unsettled man.

There was a good documentary on the bbc about him a few weeks ago, couple of hours of a film. My overall impression was he was a **** of a bloke until his lad was born, the poor boy that fell out of the window and died.

Had some good tunes, and Cream were great, but for me, he's very good, but
not as good as Peter Green or Stevie Ray Vaughan, but to each their own.
