Eric Garcia to Barcelona

I 100% agree with you and I expect this to happen. Which again begs the question why the club decided to give up 5m for 3 months of absolutely nothing.
Because by accepting 15m you are effectively giving encouragement to other clubs to tap up our players then stick a low ball offer in when they ask to leave. Good on City for not being bowed by Barca.

Smugly? I think you're projecting there, he was very professional. He only stated he was honoring his contract. What's the ideal response to a question like that while in Spain about playing for Barca for a cantera player? People see what they want to rather than what is actually there

“It is true I have told the club I do not intend to extend my contract beyond 2021,” he told an interview with Marca.

End Of.

There are a thousand and one ways, he could have avoided giving this answer, protecting the club's interest and he's weakened our position.

He explicitly told that to a leading Spanish Daily, which emboldened Barca to propose a pitiable offer.

As many have said on here, hope he doesn't play a single minute!!

OK so answer this. Is Ansu Fati worth £45m?

His current market value there is listed as €50M, I think he's worth more but don't find it undervaluing for a 17 year old either. By the time he is the same age as Garcia, I suspect it will more than double if not triple too

And how did you conclude smugly? He was asked a question, he answered it and also said in same interview he hopes to return and honor his contract

What are these thousand and one ways after Pep had already publicly stated he won't be extending? If anyone weakened City's position, it was Pep - player didn't spill the beans, the coach did and not Txiki

Every player and every transfer is different. Garcia's transfer has no affect on other transfers in the future.

And I also don't agree with the low ball offer, the guy simply isn't very good. Barcelona is about the only club in the world where he can get away with his limitations (in the league only). If he had a 5 year contract I don't think we'd have a queue of clubs if we wanted to sell him.

21M swing for City, per-contract in Jan and free in June. Player arrived for a pittance as a 16 yr old 3 years ago when more than 10 fold profit was dismissed. Won’t be admitted publicly but clear Messi saga played into this

Todibo was loaned out in the end however which is consistent with the poor sports planning of Bartomeu. Oriol Busquets to provide depth in central defense

Let’s see how his remaining months at City go as player unlikely to be happy about the intransigence or being a victim of political gamesmanship. Of course, Eric also knows returning is never easy once you leave via back door

But his return is assured as his fee

Like I said before I've nothing personal against García but you wouldn't pay the fee so you lose out on him for a season.. Hopefully he trains with the kids and doesn't get any game time.
Your club is a fucking shambles... And long may it continue

Thanks for making my point for me!

Pep made the same comments about Sane that we offered him a new contract and he hasn't signed it and may not stay.

Did we hear Sane say in interviews to BILD / Kicker that " I have told the club I am not extending"? We got a very good fee for it, in part because he didn't atleast publicly say he wants to leave

Your going round in circles on a city forum. No one wants to hate on a 19 year old kid, but surely ANYONE can understand why all are pissed with Garcia's situation.

We all wished Sane the best when he left. A far superior player I may add.

It's simple really

When we walk away from a deal, many people on here whinge that we should pay whatever the selling club want. When we walk away from a deal, many on here say we should have accepted whatever was offered. Now, I am not a master of negotiating but it seems to me that if this was my strategy I would enter every single deal known as the club that will do whatever the other party wants; no thanks.

Given that we are England's most successful football club in the decade, and one of the globe's fastest-growing football businesses, it is amazing how much the board is utterly slated. Am I one of the few who thinks they are doing a good job?
It actually pains me every time I read a “take whatever is offered as it’s better than nothing next year” post. Then add in “why keep an unhappy player” quote for good measure.

I hate the scum just like the next man on here. But I say this. United know what these clubs are like. The way Ferguson got a couple more seasons out of Ronaldo. The way Real Madrid “always” have to have the Spanish National goalkeeper until United told them where to get off with De Gea. They were happy to play brinkmanship with the player. You cannot give in at every turn. It also seems to escape some posters that there was a Messi transfer saga and they have forgotten how Barcelona played their hand. Yet a few short weeks later all memory has disappeared and we should “do the right thing” and let Barca and Garcia essentially do what they like. Naive doesn’t cover it.

How do you think certain clubs get reputations to be difficult to deal with?

Fine, but if city offered 25m euros + 25m euros in add ons that are impossible to reach, I bet you wouldn't be saying how disgustingly barca were treating Fati if barca were to reject the offer.
