Like all players coming to the end of their contract, I have to respect his RIGHT to try to play wherever he wants. The thing with this deal is the sheer bloodymindedness of Barca (like Bayern with Sané) to run roughshod over even the pretense of professional negotiations, without publicizing everything to make it a fait accompli that he leaves.

think you're missing the point. Out of contract players generally can demand a signing on fee plus higher wages than they could of requested if Barca were buying from City.

As a 4th/5th choice hes worth keeping. Seeing the number of injuries throughout the league theres no point risking being short. Certainly at CB as one of our key positions.

He knows how to play our system (whether anyone thinks hes any good at it or not).

We cant sign a replacement to be that low down the list and be able to slot in at any time for that low a fee so he stays and we sign someone in the summer when we’re in charge of the situation.
