City , United , Chelsea will all be linked with 50 players though in January by different journalists, none will have a clue.
I realise occasionally a club might want to leak something, but as a general rule, confidentiality and secrecy would be the ideal.

Dias for example, did City brief a journo?
There were a dozen other Cb s nailed on before I heard about Dias.

Of course I bow to your superior knowledge and experience.

It purely depends on what's in it for City, nobody is under any illusions on that score.

City will usually send a round-Robin email out to a select few, whether that be to knock something down completely on a reported transfer target, or to hand a steer on where it actually is at that stage.

More in terms of management, rather than divulging anything that would compromise a deal that is under wraps.

Invariably, someone always blabs, so City try and keep people sweet the best they can.

Dias was a late bloomer, but City had made it clear all summer that Koulibaly was an issue, because we wouldn't deal with Napoli.

That weekend, prior to Dias, we also bid for Kounde, and the club were obviously hedging their bets at that stage, not wanting to give chapter and verse and put anything at risk.

I love the game of cat and mouse.

I remember a few times when City have let it be known they aren’t interested in a particular player, not so much the other way round though.
Yeah, they are usually pretty quick to brief when they drop out, rather be used by agents as a negotiation piece once they walk away from the table.

When it comes to the other way around, City will generally run it by Txiki first.

They will play the game with you, but you have to come to them with the name most of the time, admittedly.

They won't lie to you if it's near the money.

Koulibaly, lots of journalists said we were buying him.
I never thought for one moment we would, were all those journalists so bad at their job , or were they trying to stir a hornets nest.

They were know-nowts, basically repeating the shite being spouted in Italy on behalf of De Laurentis trying to use City's name to flush out other buyers.

We had walked away and made if clear Napoli weren't a club we would readily do business with because of previous.

Most of the trusted City reporters steered clear.

Didn't you say we were interested? My memory is shit but we were talking about Koulibaly that whole summer, there had to have been something in it.
