Erling Haaland

Chatting with a chief sports writer this afternoon. He doesn't get how Pep can make him work in his system... ycmiu

They're just desperate to manufacture a story.

Can you imagine how boring this is for them?

All season long, "Do City need a striker?! Does Pep need a striker? Will they regret signing Harry Kane???"

Now we've gone and signed the best striker out there, for a measly £50m, 3 weeks before the season has even ended.

How many column inches have we stolen from the press? How many articles would they have wrung out of a 3 month transfer saga? How many preview interviews and podcasts could have been based around City needing a striker, will they get one?

There's not even any jeopardy in terms of will he be a success, Haaland is a robot. Will the guy who scored 1 goal/game for Salzburg, Norway and Dortmund do it at City? Yeah obviously.

So injuries and bullshit about fitting in are the only things to write about.

Assuming this might have been answered somewhere in the last few thousand pages but The Guardian say "The fee is understood to be significantly less than €75m (£64m) that has been widely reported."

Do we have any idea of how much it is?
That’s odd. What media has he been reading? “Widely reported” my arse

In all seriousness though, I think he probably meant to say significantly less than the £200m widely reported.

No chance Dortmund would accept less than the release clause.

Fabrizio Romano has said that the release clause is more like €60m so if you consider that significantly less than €75m it's would line up with that. Think Romano sometimes writes for the Guardian too

Similar mate, I was pretty angry. Really thought we would win the CL this year. Honestly thought we would have no problem with Madrid so that one wasn’t reverse psychology. Was even more confident that we would beat the rats in the final so that’s what makes it so disappointing.

We lost to a much worse side than us, which is incredibly frustrating, but for the first time this year after a few days I realised something.... we're going to be in the CL semi-final next year.

We've reached that level Pep had at Barca and Bayern where he made 7 consecutive semi-finals. We'll be there next year, but with Haaland and maybe De Jong, and we won't have to play a final without Stones, Walker or Dias.

I feel sorry for Fernandinho, but as fans...it's just a matter of time now before the CL trophy is on parade.

No, Romano (who works for the Guardian) has said the release fee is much lower than €75m and may be €60m.

Fair play to Steve Nicol for giving a balanced opinion.

Nedum was also bang on when he said it's not City's fault if the league is uncompetitive, it's down to the likes of United and Chelsea not being good enough.
I thought his comment that our competitors only play us twice in the league was (although blindingly obvious) very poignant.

If we win the league, it's not because of the points we took off Liverpool, it's because of the points Liverpool dropped in games that had nothing to do with us.

He's not saying we're paying less than the release clause, he's saying the release clause isn't the €75m that's being reported. Most sensible journalists are saying the clause is closer to €60m.
Still much, much less than the crazy figures the outrage merchants are coming up with either way.
