Erling Haaland

We have a different standard/quality of player now, where previously it was mostly based on hope......this batch are genuine Prem contenders. They just need faith and opportunity.

I hope you are right there is something special about bringing youth through, an automatic attachment for the fans. I believe those youngsters should get more minutes.

100% he is ready. Fern hardly ever plays these days so we aren't saying Lavia comes in and starts 35 games a season. He comes in to replace Fern, plays cup games, some PL games and Rodri carries on doing what he's doing. We give Lavia the opportunity to learn and integrate into the squad the same way Foden did and hopefully Palmer is now doing.

If we dont, may as well say goodbye to Lavia, Mcatee and the other fantastic youngsters we have coming through because they are at a level where they need to be playing.
My thinking exactly

I think we'll sign a DM this summer. Even with Foden emerging we still signed Mahrez, Torres and Grealish since his emergence into first team picture. All attacking players vying for spots in that front three. He's just so good he gets in ahead of those players and other established ones. That's gonna be the path for any youngster into city's team I think, we'll sign a 50 mil player in your position and you have to beat them out. Nobody is going to get a spot saved for them. Lavia is what 17/18, if Rodri did his ACL and Lavia has to all of a sudden play every week he could sink and we'd be left in big trouble in a very important position. We'll sign a DM to replace Ferna and it'll be on him to compete with that player and rodri for minutes. And if he doesn't like it he can leave like Sancho. The kids as Pep said have to have some patience and if they don't they're not right for city.

Quasi philosophical reasons? What you on about you silly sod? It’s not hard it might prove too costly or he may not want to come so best not get too giddy or in your case defensive. 17k posts on a player who has as far as I know not shown any interest in us and for who we haven’t shown much either. The window isn’t even open.

It was a comment on the on the 'if he had never been born' premise. Otherwise, mostly fair all of that, from both of us I would think.

It's quite obvious we have interest in singing him and that he is open for talks. Add to that the fact that most people (fans of all teams out there) and experts see him as the next best player of the world in the near future , and the fact that his dad played for us and he was a fan of us as a child and you have 17k comments on the thread. I don't see what the issue with it is ?

Bit early for him, still think they'll bring one in to be backup (at least an 8 who can play there to cover Gundos age and the possibility of Bernardo still wanting to move). Lavia will be 3rd choice for a season or two yet. Peps comments on how consistent and make zero mistakes Rodri needs to be in the 6 for his system is a big tell how important it is.

People do City a real disservice, they work far in advance on stuff like wages.

We moved on the KDB contract because he is our superstar and, even now at aged 30, when most clubs would be reducing the terms on offer, we sent his pay higher.

We are now covered on Kev suddenly coming along in the next five years saying they want parity with someone like Haaland.

Same reason we went big on Grealish, long term, to insure ourselves against wage mutiny.

Same reason we have looked to recognise people like Dias, Stones and now Foden .

I'm sorry, but outside of Haaland, nobody has the global status or cheek to use paying Haaland big dough as leverage.

Players know who the top guys are and if they are a top guy, themselves, they are already boxed off and well paid.

Rodri: "Hey, Txiki, you are paying Halaand £600k a week and I demand to be paid at least half that."

Txiki: "Give it a rest, Rodders, don't be a forty-eight carat plonker, you aren't Haaland and good luck getting what you're earning elsewhere."

I certainly think he needs to get the Foden and Palmer treatment next year, enough games to give him belief he can be counted upon.

Maybe someone like Bissouma for £30m next summer would be a very astute move for us?

Maybe not with his track record at the min. (he not just been arrested?)

yeah i can see him understudying for a couple more seasons yet. Dinho started 20 games or so last season, thats gonna be alot for Lavia from the off. I could see Rodri/Gundo/Lavia in the 6 rotation next year or we bring in a proper box to box who can play DM. Zakaria/Touchameni links etc. Gives cover in the 8's as well if Bernardo gets a move.

City have actually moved on our biggest earners and Sterling will be another.

People like Vinny, Dave, Yaya, Sergio, they were all earning £250k a week plus for over a decade (and rightly so).

Outside of Grealish, Kev, Stones and Raheem, the others are nowhere near that salary scale.

I always love it when people start moaning about wages.

£600k a week is far too much, but £300k a week? that's okay.

When someone is arguing the toss over an extra £300k a week and doesn't see the irony.

Patrick Mahomes gets £800m over the next ten years. He's a franchise player, he's the player the rest look to. I'm pretty certain Kansas players aren't too fussed what he is earning.

I have watched enough of him to come to the conclusion that he is,especially with another 8/9 months to further progress.People clammering for others,Palmer included.....and yet Lavia is probably the most consistent performer within he EDS set up.

We have to start trusting these kids.

Does anyone actually think Pep is going to risk playing Lavia + Gundogan in 60 games next season if Rodri does his ACL on September 1st?

The only realistic scenario for us not buying a defensive midfielder is Fernandinho repeats what he did last year and perks up in the second half of the season and impresses enough to stay on for a year.

Josh Wilson-Esbrand still has by far the easiest route into the first team.

I'd be surprised if he starts double figure games next season. (Barring L1/L2 cup draws in every round)

Can see Zinchenko getting a go in midfield in that scenario.

I would really like that but I feel that if Pep was going to play Zinchenko as a 6 we'd have seen it at some point in the last 5 years.

Pep has admitted to being influenced by international managers in the past though - he said Low playing Gundogan at 6 convinced him he could play there and Martinez playing KDB as an 8 next to Hazard gave us the Silva-KDB pairing.

5 years is a long time to not do something and Zinchenko has played a lot of games for Ukraine in midfield so he can hardly have missed it.
