Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

Couldn't hear a single chant from their fans on SL1.

Only time I heard them was when I was leaving the ground. And even then it didn't sound loud.
That just shows you the weird acoustics in out stadium.

Because their fans were up in the top tier their singing sounded loud as hell, bouncing off the roof. As I've stated many times, when our fans in that tier sing it echoes around the stadium in the same way.

It’s not that we can’t, of course we can. It’s that people don’t.

I don’t remember that song ever spreading around the stadium.
It would have been good last night if we had songs that spread across the South Stand, despite all the good efforts of 1894, who must get frustrated on nights like this. I agree with the point that there are certain / traditional songs that have a better chance spreading around the ground.

One excuse I had dismissed turns out to be genuine. Heavy handed / bullying stewarding saw my mate thrown out of the game before kick off for not being able to find his seat straightaway. The two guys I had bought tickets for swapped them because one of the lads preferred the view along the side of the pitch, so my mate could t show the audit trail on his phone. I’m often surrounded by non Blues on Champs League nights in 209 but you don’t really see any forceful stewarding in the more expensive seats.

yes always agreed on that, sounds as though the madrid fans kept it going, i didnt hear them at all under 115 at the back, hence i dont hear city fans sing up there.

Was expecting a better atmosphere last night as the stadium was nearly full. When we scored, there was plenty of noise, but the team need us to get behind them more when the going is tough and we are trying to break boring teams down. For me, the atmosphere at the PL game against Chelsea was great and we need it to be like that on Sunday.

On a night like last night, if "Blue Moon", "Best Team in the land", "Championes" and "Hey Jude" had been sung in the firsst five minutes they spread around and it sets the tone. The occasional singers feel more comfortble to sing. It's crowd psychology.

Last night the very first song sung was "We never win at home", the second was "Empty Seats" and the third was the Rube Dias song. They won't get the crowd or team going.

It was just a "bad night at the office" for atmosphere for lots of reasons. The Madrid fans were loud. Nobody sang Blue Moon until the second half at an exact point when we were looking dangerous so people were roaring the team on. Literally every time that an opportune moment for a rousing song came the clapping songs would invariably start. The Dzeko song was sung three times on the trot.

Sunday will be different league early and if the game goes well but if it goes badly early on it could be awful, one of those stunned into silence atmospheres where the opposition fans are having a party. On the other hand if we get a goal or two the roof will be coming off.

The game was a sell out

I’ve said many times that atmosphere is not always about singing. We barely sung any songs all game in that 2019 Liverpool 2-1 win, but it was the most intense atmosphere we’ve had since the 2012 United 1-0 win.

All the boos, whistles, “fuck off”s, “go on”s, “ooooohh”s at the close misses, “aaaaaahhhh”s at their misses etc. are also what makes an atmosphere great.

Agree 100% the best atmospheres generally start with the oppositions names being boo’d when the team is read out

Did you start any songs Dave?
