not sure I agree with your last point, atleast not on the scale your describing. The main reason the crowd was so different on Tuesday was because of season ticket holders/ regular fans not attending. If they attend and the tickets are cheap our crowd is more reflective of our core support.

the Madrid game was the first game for me with lots of non city fans attending like that. Even the spurs game A few years ago was a very different crowd.

champions league crowds are completely different from league or cup crowds. I reckon lots of fans were there because it was Real Madrid

There were also Blues at the game who can’t afford a season card but paid to cheer on the lads in the ChampsLeague semi final. Money, shift working, travel delays, mobility, UEFA corruption all play a part in why many peole who attend weekend Prem games don’t go midweek Cup matches but some Blues fill those seats, as well as “tourists”

Just a couple of observations. Two Italians were sat next to me in the ground and joined in with the signing. They cheered on the lads throughout the game and wore City scarfs. Everyone who gets behind the lads is welcome.

I got the 11.15pm train back to Ledds and it was rammed with people who had gone to the game. I estimate there were about 300 people on there who were Blues / had supported City on the night, based on shirts and scarfs worn.

Reading between the lines on this thread there seems to be an assumption that a broader range of ethnicities at the game (compared to weekend home matches) means more plastics / tourists. That’s true to an extent but I also think it’s the case that more groups of lads who like football and City have been able to get tickets together.

Tourists are welcome as far as I’m concerned but we need to keep the essence of City as a Manchester Club. We need to do more to encourage more Blues because maybe youngsters are being brainwashed about empty seats / poor atmosphere / oil money etc, making it harder to expand our traditional fan base:

Well said Eric. FWIW A young son of a dipper was telling my mate’s daughter that City don’t have many fans. I would hate to be a part of their cult.

good for him, but I don’t think long term that is good, especially for our own fans. Someone probably paying extortionate prices to get a ticket and they aren’t a city fan. If that’s replicated over the ground it’ll mean lots of actual city fans missing out on tickets or being eventually priced out.

And given how things like mobile tickets caused a shitstorm at the start of the season, ID checks would be a disaster. The music industry would be thrilled to kill off secondary markets, but short of being that strict there's not a lot you can do!

I'm guessing he believes the "tourists" who got in v Real Madrid also didn't have memberships.
Also, he has demonstrated support for City having been a season ticket holder in the past.
