Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

You don’t understand why someone who’s had a season ticket for 54 years feels they shouldn’t be excluded to make way for a tourist who’s never been before but paid an extra £35? He also hadn't paid for a Season Ticket for this season.
He hadn't paid for a Season Ticket for this year. He wasn't excluded either.

slightly away from atmosphere, but related to above tickets discussions - how the hell to the ticket touts work nowadays? forward on a ticket email? set up multiple fake memberships? you still see them in their merry bands, selling tickets outside the ground.

thats two of us thinking that...

I'm just saying you shouldn't have to pay the £35 membership, mate.

No one should.

You have to be registered at any PL club to gain entry into Stadiums. It costs clubs money to attain this data store it and check each ticket purchase against the personal details of the buyer. You can't just have anybody walking into a Stadium in the modern world.

it was only a few years ago - 2016. That I could get tickets through Manchester met student union. You didn’t need to be a city member.anyway You shouldn’t need a membership to give city your personal details, you can do that when your registering/ purchasing a ticket

Just a couple of observations. Two Italians were sat next to me in the ground and joined in with the signing. They cheered on the lads throughout the game and wore City scarfs. Everyone who gets behind the lads is welcome.

I got the 11.15pm train back to Ledds and it was rammed with people who had gone to the game. I estimate there were about 300 people on there who were Blues / had supported City on the night, based on shirts and scarfs worn.

Reading between the lines on this thread there seems to be an assumption that a broader range of ethnicities at the game (compared to weekend home matches) means more plastics / tourists. That’s true to an extent but I also think it’s the case that more groups of lads who like football and City have been able to get tickets together.

Tourists are welcome as far as I’m concerned but we need to keep the essence of City as a Manchester Club. We need to do more to encourage more Blues because maybe youngsters are being brainwashed about empty seats / poor atmosphere / oil money etc, making it harder to expand our traditional fan base:
Really like these comments , we used to live in Genoa and supported the local team (Sampdoria) and were very much welcomed by the Italians. On Tuesday there were lots of Chinese and Arabic fans sat near us on (CB Level3) and they were as vocal as anyone else. I think it’s great and we should welcome anyone who pays their money to support City. Our fan base is very diverse and long may that continue. However I’m not so sure it will be possible or important to keep the fan base “local” if our success continues.

completely disagree with that last point. Of course it’s important, our local fanbase is the essence of our club. It’s who the club was made for. It’s the same supporter base that stayed with us when we were shite. All of that famous humour and culture would be gone. How can you say that’s not important?

if we lost that it wouldn’t be the same club and if your not bothered about local fans we may aswell play home games in the Middle East.

if it’s not possible to keep local fans then the club and owners will have failed the people of Manchester.

Already happening mate

Don't know if it's my imagination but Liverpool seem to have played a hell of a lot of home games lately. Apart from their visit to our place its seems a long time since they have faced a hostile atmosphere. They will certainly face that tomorrow as will we at Leeds, could it make a difference. They may be shocked to realise that in spite of what the press say they are not loved by the whole country.

Spot on!

It’s OUR club. The people who own, work for, and play for this club just happen to be at the club at this moment in time… but it’s our club, the fans and this city’s. It was our club long before anyone who is at the club now came and will still be our club long after they’ve gone.

It was our club long before any fanboy realised there were two clubs in Manchester and it’ll be our club long after they’ve started watching Newcastle.

Just on the atmosphere from the other night (and in general) and how it comes across on tele…

At the game the other night (and many other nights), it was a good atmosphere to experience live. I’ve since watched the full game back and the atmosphere sounded poor compared to what it was in the ground.

And I’ve noticed this regularly; the Etihad atmosphere watching the game back on tele sounds like the microphones (which must be budget ones) are placed outside the stadium. Sounds bloody rubbish. Songs are unclear/muffled and sound like they’re coming from miles away. You can barely hear clapping and roars of “GO ON” etc.

I watched our game back immediately before Liverpool’s game against Villarreal. The difference was huge. Liverpool’s atmosphere (which was nowhere near one of their better ones) came across on tele crisply and clear as a bell. Sounded like the microphones were state-of-the-art and placed directly in the middle of the Kop.

I’m not even sure they have microphones at the Etihad switched on and all we get to hear is what is picked up by the commentator’s mic.
