Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

Just watched the full game back now.

Apart from the positivity and excitement at the start of both halves, the atmosphere was extremely flat before we scored our goals. We barely sung four songs outside those first few minutes, didn’t get behind the team, there were even very few big stadium wide “come on”s.

Through the goals it grew from a medium cheer, to a big cheer and belief we could win, to pure pandemonium when the third went in.
This is pretty much how I remember is yesterday.

I would add that the "Best team in the land and all the world" chants after the second goal were as loud as I've ever heard in a football stadium though.

When we went 2 down, I had flashbacks to 2012, exactly the same, I was stood on my feet screaming the players on, kicking every ball, and thousands upon thousands around me are sat on their hands completely silent.

I was disappointed with it at the time in 2012, and was gutted yesterday the exact same thing happened, I thought too many people don't have the fight in them.

But someone pointed out on a thread earlier, if you didn't have that silence during the bad times, the explosive roar when we did score wouldn't have the same impact.

Maybe that silence is stoicism? That was the City story for so many years, to loyally stick by the club no matter what, no matter how bad it gets. Not to scream and shout and complain about things going wrong, but to turn up, be loyal and never give up hope.

Those 3 goals and the reaction and the noise yesterday will live with me forever. They're louder and more chaotic than anything I've ever seen in any other football stadium in the world.

Maybe if we were like the scousers or the shite, where we go through the repertoire of songs bragging about how many trophies we've won, or we scream and shout and get angry at the players, you don't get to have those nuclear type explosions of noise that we have.

If it's a choice of "You'll Never Walk Alone" karaoke, or "20 times Man United" to fill in gaps of silence, or the silence followed by explosion we experienced yesterday, I'd go for the explosion every time.

Everyone in the stadium was willing that comeback and the noise was electric

When it matters We are there

Yeah, we are not a crowd that makes constant noise but we can be quite responsive.

I think one of the things that affects us is so many people are really tense on days like Sunday. Let's face how many of us expected to be put through the wringer. Don't know if it was a self-fulfilling prophecy thing but you could almost have writthen the script before the game. I just knew Coutinho would score for instance.

Whatever, the noise was immense in the final stages. When it wants to, the Etihad had can rock like Dave Grohl.

I made similar comments earlier on the thread and Ive watched it back and still believe it. It was a very disappointing atmosphere until we scored.

it sounded raucous during the presentation (which I missed) so I think some have blanked out the game.
The players lack of composure definitely fed into the crowd. Misplaced passes and vulnerability at the back made everybody in that ground very nervous. It was only natural that that affected the atmosphere. It was electric before the game.

Apologies if this has already been posted on this thread or the post match thread. I just found it on Twitter.

I played this with the volume setting at 50%. Just listen to how loud the Etihad is. Compare it to Sky's coverage. You can draw your own conclusions as to why there's no comparison between the two.

Brilliant I cant stop watching it.

Thats not what I experienced. I thought it was a brilliant atmosphere that reflected the ebb and flow of the game. The relief at scoring the first was tangible and the noise consistently loud from then until the end. Very few early leavers and a really enjoyable presentation and celebration.

This comment is on point. Fans react to how the game is going. We aren't like Bayern Munich fans where they have some bloke at the front orchestrating the singing sections, it's all so fake. The fans are there week in, week out. The atmosphere reflected the way the game went, it was fantastic.

I was an early leaver. By mistake.

My lads got so excited on the final whistle they legged it down the spirals to try to get on the pitch through tier one. I told them to wait at the bottom of the spiral for me, meaning that they needed to check whether they were open or not before leaving. The dicks could see that they were only letting people out but went out anyway, leaving me inside and them outside begging to come back in.

The stewards were total jobsworths, despite me pleading for them to let them in and showing them tickets, so we had to listen to the whole presentation from City Square without the screens on.

Absolutely 100%. Would rather have that organic reaction to what is going on on the pitch. The last 20 minutes was like an adrenaline fuelled dream. Scream to go faster.

Thats tough mate. Kids eh?!
We stayed until they put the lights out. Just a fantastic roller coaster day. If I had written the script beforehand I wouldn't have come up with anything as far fetched as what played out. So many fantastic memories. We should do that after every home game as there wasn't even a queue out of the car park by the time we got there.
Still not convinced by the Aguero statue though :-(

Brilliant!

Brought out goosebumps and a tear to my eye

That eight minutes shows the way we can ramp it up - also interesting to see the different editorial decisions that broadcasters make about sound levels. I do hope the crowd level on arabic commentary is what the players can hear.

Around me at the front of East level 3 there was the normal, mix of encouragers and moaners. By brother had to tell one moaner to just shut up - I'm not usually very vocal when watching, but when I am it's to encourage and as the second half went on we were encouraging more and more - there was a dip when Villa scored their second but it was ramping op even before we scored. After that it was phenomenal - around us I think most people were beginning to believe it could be possible.

I don't think we will ever be the most vocal crowd in the world - and in some ways watching this team makes it difficult - the game is so well controlled that is doesn't always create that end to end action that gets a crowd involved. But when we have to get involved we do.

On a side note - are we the only team to sing "City, City, best team in all the land and all the world.' or variations of it? We always have done for as long as I can remember but I'm not aware of others with a similar along with Invisible man.

Don't you just hate jobsworths. They could of let you back in, they must know how much this win meant to you and your lads.

Always said it, just make noise. You don’t need to sing every song, shout, cheer, boo, clap. Just contribute.

No doubt in my mind that the players fed off that noise on Sunday. We really can be the 12th man.
First time in a long time that I have strained my voice at the match.

Bloke near me leaves every week on 80 mins and he left right after it went to 2-0.

I don’t know if he actually left the ground but he didn’t come back to his seat.
