Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

We are spoilt, why are people leaving early? So tragic
Once we got the 3rd today the game was over, and the team weren't playing very well imho.

I stayed till the final whistle as I always do, but I was straight out, didn't bother applauding them off, as I didn't think they'd played well enough for that, and living nearly 200 miles away I wanted to catch an earlier train (failed by about 20 seconds sadly).

Our atmosphere gets regularly attacked, but it depends on the quality of the game (poor today), the opponent (good until we scored the third), and the scoreline (game was done after the third).

It's sad to see it less than half full, at full time, but sometimes I can understand it, today was one of those.

We’ve always had the same passionate hardcore of about 30-35k, the rest are casual, take it or leave it type fans. It kinda makes sense when you look at the stadium at 80- 85 mins with thousands running to get home. There’s no easy answer to this and I’m not sure what more the owners, pep and players can do to persuade supporters to back the team vocally and that finishing a game is worth getting home a little later.
The point is that the hardcore as as likely to leave early as the others, making them slightly less hardcore that they might be.

They can take us being shit for 35 years, but not the extra 35 mins in traffic.

A great game with great support for both teams made me nostalgic for the mad bad old days in the lower divisions.
No offence, but never be nostalgic for those bad days, sadly back then the football wasn't the "main event", being with your mates was, whatever the result.

I'm quite happy for the football to be the "main event" now, today we were far from our best, yet we won 3-1, and for long periods we were second best (imho), as I said earlier it will be game easily forgotten by us, but it was still 3 points, I'll take that over the performance (and atmosphere/early leavers etc).

More so, to get behind the players when they aren’t playing well. Not sit there and wait for something to happen? Pep said himself the fans have got the players BACK into games before.
We didn't need that today though, even not "playing well" the game was won after 75 minutes, and we were a long way from our best if you're honest, had we not scored the third I think people would have stayed longer, what would you prefer, the third, or the fans staying longer ? I'll take the third first, and stay anyway, but each to their own on that.

I could have left earlier and got an earlier train. I left the house at 0815 this morning, and I got back home just before 2200, but I'm not going to attack people who left before I did, we have enough wankers elsewhere doing that for me.

Some? LOL. Were you actually there? More like 60% by 85 minutes. It's embarrassing. Try to sugar coat it, explain it away, rationalise it, but at the end of the day this is fans fucking off their team leaving early in tens of thousands. Best fans in the world? Not a fucking chance! And as a fan of over 45 years it pains me to say that. Any success we have as a club is 100% down to Sheikh Mansour, Pep and the players and nothing to do with our 'fans' who are in the pub in town or in their car in Stockport before the final whistle blows
Either a very daft or a very dodgy comment

You're way too old to be "embarrassed" by what other fans do. Such condemnation of City fans for something that is pretty standard throughout the PL is usually an indication that the accuser is a rag or a dipper.

Are you just a Brian Kidd fan who celebrated all his success with the rags then like a shallow superficial gloryhunter followed him over to us when we started to win things and stayed here when he left cos we're still the best ?

there aren't much positive things to say about our home support today comments on an Etihad atmosphere thread are going to be negative.

10,000 plus ?
you must be joking
there was at tbe most 10,000 left at the final whistle,3 pm kick off too
Correct. What would they have done if it was a 17.30 kick off, not turned up because it’s too late for them?

Don’t forget though, Strictly has started and all the lads who are under the thumb have to get home for tea and sat in front of the tele in time for Strictly on a Saturday evening now.

Same happens at this time every season with the early leavers, it can’t be a coincidence.

There should be a group that lead the crowd.
We potentially have a few of those but I think they’re too interested in being Twitter video groups who film themselves concourse singing for the chance to get on the ‘@footyawaydays’ feed. Or they want to sing songs they know the rest of the ground don’t want to join in with on purpose to prove some point to themselves.

There’s nothing more fucking pointless than concourse singing. Get fucking singing in the stands.

And sing the songs that the crowd want to sing, sing the City songs and make some more City songs up.

Absolutely no fucker in the stadium outside two blocks is interested in singing ‘Gerrard slipped, Suarez cried’ or ‘Bernardoooooo’ at 0-0 when the opposition have started more brightly than we have.

Do ANY of you say anything? I mean to fans who are getting up and going? I get so incensed I can't help myself with something snide in the direction of someone who is leaving early.

Last season I watched a young kid, just up the row from me, calling out each and every one of the fans who were getting up and leaving early.

So do any of you guys say anything? It's difficult tbh.
At the derby (a derby we scored 6 goals in for just the third time in Manchester derby history) I started singing ‘Is There A Fire Drill’ a few times at the droves and droves who were fucking off early.

The reaction of our fans at the end of that game was as if they’d brought it back to 6-6.

Lol. Not an unsurprising response from a a certain section of this forum, where the mantra is "if they say something that's hard accept, rather than debate just call them a rag and hopefully everyone else will jump in". Pathetic.

Facts are, having half the crowd leave before the game ends IS an embarrassment. It does nothing good whatsoever, from the message it sends to the players and manager to the ammunition it gives to the media. The excuses for it are just as embarrassing and the fact you call people rags just because they call it out is the most embarrassing of all.
