Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

How do you gauge that "it works" though? There'd be people who stop going for definite, or would they be acceptable collateral damage?

Its very clear to see that the Ultra-style atmosphere (minus the pyro/violence) is working across football.

I was massively against it, but really do see the benefits.

People need to accept this, and using a drum correctly whilst boosting up the chant levels/amount of singing it can work to improve the overall matchday atmosphere without irritating people.

People would stop going? What about the fans who don't go anymore due to how poor the overall matchday experience has become?

The club has been recording atmosphere KPIs since the SSL3 opened. They are using it for a long-term study of what affects the atmosphere. They showed us some results a few years ago.

Some of the metrics they looked at were: noise (decibels), song duration, noise from each stand, etc.

They checked these against things like kick-off times, opposition, goals in the game/result, and ticket prices.

So they have the ability to check if it works, scientifically.

Although I personally wouldn't like to see any blue stop going as a result - the club probably wouldn't care as long as there was someone else to fill the seat.

What I really enjoy about European atmospheres and which I witnessed at first hand when City played away at Copenhagen was the chants between different stands towards each other.

Arsenal and Spurs do something similar to this day.

”We are the North Bank…….

Something similar at City could be.

”We are the South Stand, we are the South Stand, we come from Manchester“(directed at the Kippax Corner/111, 110, 109)

In reply.

”We are the Kippax, we are the Kippax, we come from Manchester”(directed back at the South Stand)

Stop going because of a drum? Please!

And if they do stop going, some other City fan(with ear plugs) would snap up their season ticket or match ticket.
Cut it out. It was a sensible question and not everyone is the same. Personally I have struggled with hearing issues all my life and it seems to be getting more sensitive as I get older. I really hated the drum Dortmund used when they came to ours.

So yes, some people will stop going.

when we first moved to the current ground we did use to do something like this, but died out quickly

sorry to hear you have hearing issues, which part of the ground do you sit in?

I sit in the Colin Bell and thought it was ok

I’m sorry to hear that.

But nobody is going to stop going because of a drum located in a possible new *singing section* in the NS, if and when it’s expanded.

There are also different kinds of drums that create different drum sounds. Yes there are drums you can bash the hell out of that will reverberate around the ground and annoy people. There are also drums that are much quieter, but can still be heard within the singing section.

Apologies for being a stuck record on this matter, but you don’t have to beat a drum to death to get the best out of it. If it’s used ‘PROPERLY‘, sparingly and in unison with chants, it can be a great asset and it can improve the chants and the atmosphere inside the ground.

The first chant is a bit basic. But different stands are involved with each other. And the drum is used sparingly during clapping.

Lad at the bottom in the grey top with the small drum.

Didn’t watch the rest of the video.
