Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

seems to me there's a lot of bickering about songs, and what people should and shouldnt be singing. Doesn't it more boil down to the fact that people are just sat tight lipped in large parts of the stadium, why arent they joining in? even with classics? what's causing that shyness?

if parts of the ground want to sing classics plus some new ones perhaps much less people know, that's fine isnt it? the rest of the ground can whip up their own atmosphere with Blue Moon or some such. I dont get this obsession with one thing being fit for all.

I’ve often wondered why the Guardiola chant never takes off around the ground.

There’s a lead in that everyone can follow and repeat. That goes for every line of the chant. And if people don’t want to sing the chant they can just clap. It’s a simple, easy to follow chant that everyone can join in with, even the kids, but it barely makes it past SSL1 and blocks 111, 110 and 109.

Ask Pep. He loves it.

Yesterday was a perfect example of how people who say acoustics don't matter, have no idea what they're talking about.

I absolutely believe we have a lounder fan base than Chelsea, given we always outsing them at Wembley.

Yesterday however, the sound Chelsea made in SS3 completely engulfed the stadium, and the sound we made in SS1 could barely be heard.

I'm sure if you were in SS1 the atmosphere sounded amazing, as they were singing constantly, however the Chelsea lot were far louder and that's purely because of acoustics.
From 113 row U we sounded pretty good at times, 115 sang almost all game.

As for Chelsea, couldn't hear much of them, which highlights the issues of when we're up in SS3.... Level 1 and 3 can't hear eachother to any decent volume.

That's one of the ones that does usually spread around the stadium on the rare occasions it is sung.

That's the biggest problem of all. It's like we've got two seperate stadiums in one. I actually believe there could be a technical solution but it would have to be innovative.

Absolute bullshite, just join 8n with the songs instead of fucking moaning about the atmosphere !!!
I do join in with songs pal, you get used to the strange looks from tourists eventually.

My point is, that for the amount of energy we put into singing (SS1 Singing the whole game), it's a shame that the sound gets lost, it could be so much louder.

If liverpool made as much noise as we did the other night, it would be deemed a "Famous European Night" and "The Best Atmosphere in Europe" by the media. A lot of that is acoustics

There is.

knock the Etihad down.
Build a brand new stadium.
4 stands as close to the pitch as possible.
60,000 capacity.
A home end.
With a low roof all the way around the stadium that keeps the noise in and amplifies it.

Obviously that won’t happen. :-(

Isn’t it sung during almost every home match at some point?
I’ve never seen it spread to the CBS.
I’ve only ever seen it spread to 111, 110, 109 in ESL1. It doesn’t spread further along ESL1 or to ESL2 and ESL3.
I can’t tell if it spreads to the NS. It may do?
I don’t know if it spreads to SSL2 and SSL3 as I stand just past the SSL2 concrete tier in SL1, Block 115.

See my reply to Dave.

This is getting silly now.

Do you seriously want us to stop singing the Ruben Dias chant because it doesn't get the rest of the ground going? What about all the other player chants? Do we stop singing their chants as well because the rest of the ground don't join in.

Blue Moon
Oh City We Love You
City, From Maine Road
Ark Now Hear The City Sing
City, City, TBTITLAATW
We’re Not Really Here
Come on City
Ci-ty Ci-ty Ci-ty Ci-ty

And where do most if not all of those chants normally start? In the South Stand.

I can’t see many posters saying let’s stop singing the Dias chant or follow, follow. Where I do agree with other posters is that the classic city chants and songs aren’t sung enough. They are chants everyone knows and will join in with.

Blue moon against Fulham was the perfect example of that. Some games I don’t hear the south stand level 1 sing hey Jude, we love you city, super city and when they are, they are often not as loud as other chants.

I think we need more of a balance of songs and it would just be good to hear those main ones more. Others around the ground are more likely to join in with hey Jude then the Dzeko song for instance. The south stand being the singing section should be leading the ground. Ss3 has done that quite a bit recently

City til I die is the chant that just disappeared for some reason, I find that chant more an anthem then blue moon with our fans. Would be great to get that back

glad you brought this up, when sung at the correct time this goes right accross the lower SS and the whole stadium sings it. When sung at the wrong time it gets a few ripples. But this is typical of what is needed, a bit of thought rather than shouting out any old song because it has gone quite for 15 seconds !

Im at the back of 115, when we score if you let things die down for a minute then start guardiola song it echoes round the whole of the south stand and repeated twice. BUT you get fans after 10 mins and nil nil thinking " lets belt out guardiola for the hell of it" ( or even worse fkn stand up for the champions ten mins into a game when that song is only any use ten mins before the end when 4 nil up )

This is why clubs have a capo, being honest i dont want to see one at all. But that way there is some structure and not 60 songs in 60 mins and random shit nobody wants. If a couple of random useless songs get sung it then pisses the three blocks of fans off so they no longer sing, people need to realise this.

also the problem that we have discussing atmosphere on this thread is that 70% of the people on BM will never go in to the singing section, you have to be in there to fully understand it. As much as we harp on about try this and try that it goes out to the wrong fans.
