Etihad atmosphere

The only reason that anyone is arsed about the 'atmosphere' is because SKY/BT are, a quiet stadium, half full detracts from ther hyperbole and reduces a match which they've been overstating the importance of to a ,meh'...
Back in the day (i know) you went, or didn't go to the match, sometimes it was a decision made on the day, or on how many pints you had on...you cheered or sneered depending on the performance, you certainly wern't considered part of the TV show. Only the derby and a select few others were you really 'up' for on the day/week before.
To get in these days, seems to be a quite unfathomable logistical workout, involving weeks of planning. Esp for the part timers, who don't really want to be part of the club on a formal basis.

I think there's been some really good and thoughtful posts about this and I don't think there's any right or wrong answers. I fully get the perspective of an ST holder who has paid his/her money every year for 20 years and now for whatever reason only wants to go to 5 games a year. It's a free country and all that. On the other hand, I can see how damaging it is, in terms of atmosphere, team's performance, the club's image in the media (and yes, it does matter. "Who cares" is not a sensible response) and matchday revenues etc. Leaving on 80 minutes is also damaging for similar reasons.

So I think this whole thing should be looked at in the round and considered carefully by the club. No need for knee-jerk reactions and harsh punitive measures, but perhaps a balanced approach.

Kevin makes some great points (1 and 2 above). It seems pretty stupid to pay say £600 per year and then only go to a handful of games. Maybe a person doing that is doing it because they plan on going to many games next season but this year they cant (for whatever reason) and they are concerned they won't be able to get their ST back next year? So perhaps we should allow ST "holidays" where you can let you ST lapse and pick it up again in a year or two? Maybe allocate spare seats for former ST holders who want instead to only go to a handful of games?

And yes, we could consider some kind of light penalties for people just generally taking the piss. But not only penalties, also incentives to reward the kind of fan behaviour we'd like to be renowned for. I think there's a lot the club could do to improve things, if they put their minds to it.

There are some of the smartest business people in the whole of the world running and involved within the club. As well as making the club great, which is an absolute pleasure for us all, I feel they (and us) would benefit hugely from focusing on some of the issues mentioned within this thread.

Guardiola has mentioned at his press conference today that he needs the team to play well so the 'supporters stay until the end'. It IS noticeable and not just amongst our fans who stay.

The lack of atmosphere, and number of empty seats, I can not see for the life of me is going un noticed at higher circles at the club than Guardiola.

For that reason, it'd be crazy for them to sit back and do nothing (on that particular front) when it's one of the biggest issues we have as a club.

I'm hoping it's just a matter of time, but surely the issues are being discussed within the relevant people at the club and they can and will come up with some sort of plan to improve things? If so, communication with the 1894 group and the like is a must.

I agree with every word mate. I am sure they are looking into it. They must be, surely?!?!

I really can't see what else the club can do, they have bought some of the best players in the world that have won us trophies we couldn't dream of a few years ago.
Some people will always need to leave a few minutes early but to finish a game with a half empty stadium is not normal.
Identity was mentioned earlier, perhaps we need a few local lads to break in the first team and become crowd favourites, something needs to happen and hopefully will.

the last local lad we had playing in our first team regularly was micheal johnson. yet we didn't have this problem really when mancini was in charge. its getting worse the better we get. it doenst matter if we are winning or needing a win the same people keep leaving early all the time. seems like pep and the club are noticing now swell

Guardiola at today's press conference:

"When I walk around, (City fans) are really nice people. We need to play as well so they stay until end of the match and support us."

Well said Pep. Won't make a blind bit of difference though.

The club can't do more than they have already done for our club! The fans are the problem and they need to start supporting the team more. Stay till the end isn't even my personal bugbear, it's the fact when we go a goal down or concede an equaliser the ground, apart from a small minority, go silent and wait for the team to do something. Occasionally in football it has to work the other way around.

Can't see the leavers staying even if we had 2/3 local lads starting.

The problem is cheap season tickets and SOME early leavers not really giving a major fuck.

Fully aware the need for long distance fans, odd people with somewhere to go afterwards but it's balmy for the majority to make the effort to go and miss 10+ mins every game.
