Etihad atmosphere

What hasn't been touched on much re; atmosphere is its link with the increasing "social cleansing"
Which has been occurring inside the Etihad since the takeover.
The social cleansing I'm referring to is the increasing amount of hospitality seating, and for me it seems general cost in going to the football.
Its become more like horse racing or tennis now than a working class event.

Outside of the stadium many new plush city apartments are being built, I somehow doubt working class blues will be affording those apartments.
Full of Londoners moving up here and or Chinese people.

These will be our future fanbase.

Bye bye.
And I'm sure the club won't miss me.

It amazes me how many people are buying into the media-inspired myth that the Etihad is worse than any other ground where squeezing income from the corporates is, and has to be, the priority.

Highbury was known as "the library" it was so quiet and is anyone telling me the Emirates is any louder ? As for the self-styled "theatre of dreams", the place is a morgue with a few nursery rhymes trotted out if they happen to be winning. Chelsea is hardly a bearpit and at Anfield you can hear the players shouting to each other when they're losing. There's not a club in the country where, at some time or another, the manager or a player hasn't exhorted the fans to get behind the team.

The truth is that the media was always coming for the fans. The one accusation that could never be made about Manchester City was that the fans weren't uniquely loyal. We proved it in the third division and it was one of the main reasons we received the investment and not any other club. The fact has been gnawing away at opposition fans, including those in the media, for years. Well now they are coming for us and they scent blood. It started with the "Emptihad" bullshit and now it's this apparent criticism by the manager of the fans and the size of the club etc etc. That some of our more vocal "fans" buy into this divisive shit must be manna from heaven to our rivals. I once described them as "collaborators" and I think the post was pulled but that is what they are. Feeding those who would harm the club.

No-one is suggesting that the club is beyond criticism or that the atmosphere couldn't be improved but if you are one of those buying into this "Pep doesn't respect the club", "our fans are shit" nonsense, it probably is better for all concerned that you take a break.

The Chines own 13.5 percent of the City Football Group. Chinese people have every right to follow City and if local Blues won't roll out of the pub to the game then we need other fans to fill the ground.

Let's have a reality check. All this talk of tourists but there were plenty of tickets floating around for Anfield if "real" Blues wanted to go.

The amount of Corporate seats in the Etihad represents a small percentage of the capacity and funds the £299 seats Blues struggle to sing from.

Fans have lost their passion. Blues leaving with ten minutes to go when we are holding on to a 2-1 win with ten men says a lot. My mate stayed in the bar on Saturday from half-time until the 80th minute.

Can the Blues always on about binning their season cards please do so. Give other people the chance to go who might enjoy the games. I exclude the people being harshly treated by Showsec from this as the Club should help fans with a solution.

My last point is aimed at the thread rather than your post. Here's a song for us. Always the victims it's never our fault!

Sadly this is very true. We have a manager complaining about home support but the club with all there wealth are happy to let those fans that are trying to improve the situation scratch around for funds.
I wonder if the problem is that the corporates running the club are not long term fans and have no conection with and do not understand the fan base. They seem to be doing things that continually piss fans off, I have lost count of the number of posters who have said they are considering binning off their season cards next season. This is unbelievable and happening when we have one of the worlds top managers, a good team and are in one of the most periods in our entire history. Something is wrong somewhere but the club do not seem arsed.

Im one of them mate, my lad who's 17 thinks I'm joking- if it was all about silverware Id have given up supporting City 20 years ago, the connection has gone and it shows you how out of touch elements of the club are with the fans, the warning signs are there for them to see-empty seats, its should be sold out weeks in advance certainly for the big games, tickets are on open sale a day before the game.We have a huge opportunity to get younger fans hooked on supporting City with proper ST prices.

They are losing us which is a disgrace when its this clubs fans that kept this club afloat for decades in the wilderness.

Ouch! Some good points though. I do think there are genuine issues with certain things the club are doing that is alienating some of our core support but that doesn't excuse things like people in the singing section never singing, or even worse - as happened on Monday in there - one fan getting told not to sing by people around him! That's the ultimate piss-take and I feel like telling people like that not to just fuck off out of that section, but to fuck off out of the ground altogether. Perhaps I'm being overly harsh but in all seriousness, what possesses someone in a designated singing section to tell someone not to sing?

Absolutely spot on.
The club wants a sanitised middle class/tourist based fan base, they can organise and fleece. Sporadic outbursts of risque chanting will be airbrushed out of the matchday experience.
Much like the city centre of Manchester is being managed.
Mancunia is being merged into a beige generic UK town. Nothing we can do about it. 20 years time the accent will even have gone, apart from far flung estates.
I quit the 'matchday experience' years ago. I now wander over the pub to watch and give my funds to Holts brewery for the pleasure of watching.
We are the dispossessed.

Cant believe a long standing blue like you has that opinion of longstanding fans feeling disconnected from the club, people are feeling this way for a reason and I will tell you something now there are a lot of blues feeling the same, so your answer is for the old guard to fuck off to be replaced by glory hunting season ticket holders who are only watching for the silverware? There is room for both is what I'm saying and unless the club concentrates more on its longstanding loyal fan base then shame on them.

If fucking glass tunnels floats there boat more than atmosphere then they will get what they deserve.

I'm not gonna sit here and say that we have the best atmosphere in the world at every home game, because we don't and neither does any other premier league home side. It's the only thing the media could target us on when we had adapted this "holistic" approach and Mancini left, Hereford has been blown way out of proportion.

I imagine if you went to any home game in the premier league, barring local derbies, and the atmosphere would be bang average up until there was a goal or a bad refereeing decision.

I agree mate that there is room for old and new and I have no time for glass tunnels so well said. What I've got no time for is hearing Blues walking way from the ground ground saying their match day experience has been damaged because they can't do a full lap of the tier 1 concourse on match days. There's too much moaning going on.

Likewise there were one or two posts on here blaming foreigners and corporates when the official ricket / ticket site erroneously claimed West Ham in the Cup was a sell out when there were thousands of tickets left.

I still like going to the games but if some longstanding Blues don't then yes they have the option of giving up their seasoncardss.

Spot on mate and I was a bit harsh on some of our longstanding fans. I will add the Blues affected by the tunnel to those harassed by Showsec as being hard done to / legitately pissed off.

I had to laugh on Monday when my mate who returned from the bar on 80 minutes said I was out of order when I asked some blokes why they were leaving on 85 minutes with the lads defending a 2-1 lead with 10 men.
