<a class="postlink" href="http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Club%20news/2014/June/Manchester%20City%20announce%20second%20phase%20of%20Etihad%20expansion" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Club%20news/ ... 0expansion</a>

Manchester City Football Club have today announced Phase Two of the Etihad Stadium expansion, which will see a further three rows of seats built pitchside and take total capacity to more than 55,000. To mark the announcement City, in partnership with Laing O'Rourke, have released a spectacular fly-through video showing the entire construction process.

Work began in March 2014 to add c.6,000 seats to the South Stand and both projects are due to be completed in time for the start of the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season.

Demand has soared from fans hoping to secure a seat following the news of the South Stand expansion, and the waiting list for new seasoncards now stands at 7,500.

Planning permission has also been granted for a third phase which could see a further c.6,000 seats and a total capacity of c.61,000, making the Etihad the second largest stadium in the Premier League.

Tom Glick, Chief Commercial Officer, said: "We have always been committed to bringing fans closer to Manchester City, to the players and to the pitch.

"Whether that's through digital innovation, community work, international tours, or as in this case, physically allowing fans to be right next to the action, it is our top priority.

"We are already looking forward to seeing the expanded stadium in action for the 15/16 season."

For nine months of 2013, Manchester City held a free exhibition on the Etihad Campus in order to consult with local residents, fans and other stakeholders.

The decision to increase the capacity of the Etihad Stadium has enabled the Club to provide even more £299 seasoncards and at the same time to improve the on-site hospitality offering

As with all of the Club's infrastructure projects, the expansion provides both employment and procurement opportunities for the local community. Approximately 160 people will be employed through the project at its peak and up to 110 match day jobs will be created in these first phases.

The work begins with immediate effect and will continue throughout the 2014/15 season. For further information visit <a class="postlink" href="http://www.mcfc.co.uk/stadiumfuture" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.mcfc.co.uk/stadiumfuture</a>.

Fucks sake, I need to read through this thread for my dissertation work. Before I start the mammoth task, the thread hasn't been derailed in the middle for a good 50 pages like most mammoth threads, has it?

This is about the 6th reincarnation of this thread BS. You might have to ask a mod for the other thousand or so pages ;)
Fuck. Anything I've missed? What's this about a training ground; are we getting a couple of new squat racks in or something?

Report sheds more light on Abu Dhabi tie-up

26th June 2014. By James Graham - Deputy Editor, North West

MORE detail has emerged about Manchester City Council's housing tie-up with the owners of Manchester City.

A council document shows how the Manchester Life partnership with the Abu Dhabi United Group will work in tandem with another joint venture called Manchester Place to deliver thousands of homes in east Manchester, and help the council hit its target of 55,000 new homes by 2027.

The second partnership is between the council and the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) that will identify "investment action areas", to encourage landowners to bring forward developments, and use compulsory purchase powers "where justified".

The report said: "It is now possible to bring these two elements together as one integrated strategy the result of which has the potential to transform the city's housing market, support its growth ambitions and provide the most robust platform for housing investment and delivery which the city has seen for many years."

Manchester Place would, "generally undertake all the activities to prepare land for development and shape places for long term success. This can include design, remediation, the provision of essential infrastructure, and the procurement of development expertise".

Under the terms of the JV, receipts from the sale of HCA assets will be reinvested in Manchester housing projects until 2022. The first action area is Ancoats and New Islington where officials say 3,000 homes, mainly apartments, can be delivered over the next five to 10 years.

The report said: "It will be the role of Manchester Place not only to facilitate the successful introduction of new investors in Ancoats and New Islington but to ensure that through a proactive city-wide market facing approach the full benefits of successful investment in this priority area will be captured by the city's overall housing market."

One of these investors will be Manchester Life which has identified six sites in Ancoats and New Islington where it will build 830 homes for rent. Most of the cash is understood to be coming from Abu Dhabi but the document also says the venture will apply for Build to Rent loans from the Government.

Very impressive video.
Akin to a promotional video for a new skyscraper going up in Dubai.
The expanded South Stand will look 'mint' from Ashton New Road.

So both phases are being done together now?

Only the pitchside seats, for now. Permission is granted for the North Stand but it'll probably start as the South finishes...
