Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Back in the Maine Road days every bit of stadium development seemed to my then young eyes to downsize the club and ground I loved.

The Platt Lane stand which once had masses of wooden seating was replaced by a somewhat stunted stand that had no oomph about it.

When the new roof on the Main Stand was fitted it was an unfinished nonsense thing that looked OK but left us all wondering what was going to come next.

When the massive Kippax went it was replaced by something that just didnt seem to fit with what Maine Road was and was simply odd against the rest of the ground and dare I say it, ugly.

As we watch what happens to the Etihad I have an overpowering feeling that we are getting bigger, getting better, getting slicker, (and whilst the roof is off getting wetter.)

Back at Maine Road we got the new scoreboard with its clunky graphics (shit even back then) and now we get 4 massive HD screens that I am assured will be the envy of all other fans.

I moan on Twitter about a lot of the monetising of us fans and the whole CityZen nonsense but if we have to have that as a price for what we see being developed then I will accept it because what we see now is the tip of a massive, sky blue iceberg.

An every change we see takes the Etihad (and MCFC) closer to the end point of being not only the biggest but also the best.

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned or noticed, but looking at the 'still' pictures in the MEN article, it looks like the concrete border seperating the lower & second tier may have had video screens installed like Wembley. I may be wrong but the pictures make it look a pink, green and yellow colour, but in the drone video its back to the concrete colour? It could just be the banners from the recent rugby, but if it is video screens then its certainly another great upgrade!

Rolling Advertising on 2nd tier according too posters on here who have visited the stadium over the last few weeks, may not be used 100% of the time for advertising though

They are gonna name and shame people leaving early.

South Stand Roof

As part of the on-going construction work to build the third level of the South Stand, sections of the roof have been completely removed, from the corners. Due to the recent poor weather and high winds, it has not been possible to complete the work to temporarily cover these areas in advance of the match.

Therefore, should it rain on the night, supporters directly underneath these sections will be exposed to the elements. Every person affected will be offered a poncho free of charge.

The temporary roof covering is due to be in place for the match against Chelsea on Sunday 21st September, although all construction programmes are designed with some flexibility in case of high winds or storms.
What a load of bollocks, they have just not prioritised that job, and it will be mainly City fans getting pissed wet through not away fans.

Will we also be given cloths to dry out our seats before we sit on them, it will be better to stand - how will the stewards handle that?

I would think not being allowed to work 100's of feet in the air when its wet and windy is probably to do more with health and safety rather than priority. Im sure the building company would like to have the roof fully secure before they let people under it as well

Its the new Tardis.

You both beat me to it. I think the new series starts Saturday BBC 1 - you can just imagine the Tardis landing on the Campus and Clara(lovely) saying
to THE DOCTOR " where are we" - on the BLUE MOON" comes his reply.
OK I'll keep taking the pills.

Isn't that the new media room, set up a bit like a Cinema/Theatre

Might have a panoramic gem of the Manchester skyline and the 3 cranes at the Etihad?

Only issue being, I had to us my camera phone, so the quality won't be that great, and the shot/picture will probably be quite small and narrow. I'll find out tomorrow when I upload the pictures. Either way, I'll still post the pictures. Next time I go I'll take my point and shoot camera.

Had a drive round the Etihad last night and it's all so overwhelming just how much time and effort has been put into it all, the thing that strikes you most is the sheer quality of it all. The mini-stadium in the complex looks so well put together and could easily host some clubs as high-up as the Championship, the bridge structure looks excellent and the Etihad its-self is having a makeover with images documenting the clubs history.

From numerous posts I've read on here over the years, one thing has always persisted and that is, once the North Stand expansion is completed the current store will be demolished and relocated, could that be to the site where this supposed retail complex is to be? It would make sense if we are to have a retail complex that it would centre around a huge City Store.

I was led to believe that the store will be incorporated into the North Stand - in effect the City Square stage and the Shop swap places.

Now we know you're bullshitting. We don't have any history; ask any fan of Arsenal, Candlepool or the quiet neighbours and they'll confirm it.
