I'm getting the feeling that MCFC and MCC are being somewhat embarrassed by the phrase originally used in the partnership blurb telling everyone that there would be a 'world class' attraction.

May I be so bold as to suggest that money is no problem but Manchester's image and global standing is when searching for something world class?

For almost a decade the council tried and failed to get a partner for the collar site and ended up with a casino that many felt was morally objectionable.

Now, over a decade after the Commonwealth Games we seem to be no nearer finding out who will be the anchor tenant, the big name, the world class, eye watering addition to the campus.

I fear that it simply wont be as wow as we all hoped for originally.

I'm thinking you might be trying to poke a hornets nest with an honey glazed twig...but the bee's have plenty of sweet things and won't be coming out to play today? :)

I think Manchester's standing in the world is growing by the day, but even if it wasn't then a leisure destination could do pretty well in a lot of places. That Harry Potter tour (as an example) does remarkably well and I've no idea exactly where it is (without googling)...it's not in London mind.

Maybe they're just waiting for the 'perfect' partner, or perhaps this is indeed longer term (those 6000 odd house builds have been put out in the press first).
I'd hate to be wrong...I think an international leisure destination (along with recent announcements) would really push this city up the pole.

I think your best bet is the stadium the day before a home match.

i tried that once and was told by some "autograph regulars" that seem to go every time that certain ones never sign at the stadium but always do at training - they said they're "too focused" the day before a match. Apparantly Kompany was one, Hart another, i think they said there's plenty that ignore you at the stadium but signed at carrington. But i've never done carrington, and now they're at the new place i wasn't sure what to do really!

Thanks for replying though :)

There was a report recently profiling Manchester as one if the most investable cities in the world at the moment.

I disagree with Fbloke, look at Bilbao before the Guggenheim arrived. Now it has a world class attraction that brings millions into the City.

I still think there is scope for a new concert area too.

What is the difference between CFA and Etihad Campus?[/quote

The campus is the whole thing including the stadium and other sports facilities, originally know as Sport City. The City Football Academy is an addition to the Campus that encompasses the training facilities for all City teams from junior to senior including ladies and EDS. City at home HQ, media centre, player accommodation and a 7000 seat / standing stadium Some of the facilities will be available to the community, the schools football finals will be hosted in the CFA Stadium

The real problem that ADUG/CFG/MCC face is that unlike Bilbao and the Guggenheim there is a rather large fly in the ointment called Abu Dhabi.

There will likely be more call on the Sheikh's billions to draw any similar world class attraction back home rather than into Manchester. They have the Louvre over there already BTW ;-)

I'm not saying it wont/cant happen but I feel its unlikely.

I said years and about 20,000 pages of this thread ago that a museum and art venue would be my preferred thing and one that leans towards technology and science too.

A massive aquarium is another possibility and one that would make the Sea Life Centre look plain redundant, but could that be OK'd?

Anyway, I'm not sure we will hear anything for some time yet and that deadline to use the site or lose it is ticking too.
