Depends how high you want to build up ;)

In City's case, try the height of the new Etihad.

To illustrate - this is Birmingham Resorts World, which is being built at the NEC: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.resortsworldbirmingham.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.resortsworldbirmingham.co.uk/</a>

It contains a lot of similar ancillary stuff that we'll see on our development - a hotel, bars, restaurants, retail outlets and the like. It occupies 538K square feet, which is around 12 acres, and they can fit everything in because it's seven storeys high. The collar site is 42 acres, IIRC, including a small parcel of land to the SE of the stadium on the other side of the bridge from the main body of the collar site. Look at what that Brum site can house, remember that we have an extra 30 acres and then imagine what we might be able to do with it.

Any more photos of South stand development ? 10 days since last home game so would expect that quite a bit of work has been done since then.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Way,way back I was told and posted on here that the highest point would be 15 storeys.

This place hardly gets the juices flowing to be honest.

But I look forward to seeing a fly through of something less 'regional' than it for the Collar Site.

so Resortsworld Birmingham.... looks about the size of the Parrs Wood development ... befitting of the West Midlands Dunghole then! ha ha

I think we can do CONSIDERABLY better than tha!

I think I posted these before the Academy site was even cleared on the original Las Vegas thread, but here's a comparison between space occupied by ALL of the Etihad Campus compared to two "world class visitor attractions" - check the scale on each picture - they are all the same
Etihad Campus

Disneyland Paris

Universal Studios Orlando

Not a lot of space left then, for a "world class visitor attraction"

I guess whatever you've seen Tolm is (perhaps) subject to change given the type of leisure destination that will end up on there?
Still clinging onto your "makes Yas Marina look like a set of council blocks" (slight misquote) line...I'd rather wait than stick up a 'Crossroads' theme park.

Wondering (erm, just on the off chance) what the size would be if the Asda plot was included in those figures (I'll have a quick look on google maps). That would certainly open a few more opportunities up.

Apologies if already discussed but to get an idea of the real size of that plot, what current thing could easily slot in there - eg 1 x Guggenheim Bilbao or 2 x Louvres etc, if you see what I mean?

To me, it looks like we'll be able to get some shops and a hotel on there and not much else, but then again I'm clearly no architect or visionary.

These renders will give you an idea of what can be built on the said plots. They've been posted before.

It's like being given a blank canvas and being told to paint or draw what you want to. The only obstacle is your imagination.

The failed Super Casino initial proposal from Ian Simpson Architects. Can't find the 3d model render of the proposal, which was on the BBC news website. Must have been removed.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

I think the final decision has been somewhat dependent on the stadium expansion decision. There were a number of options for the stadium that included builsing an entirely new one on either the North Car Park or the land now occupied by the Training Complex but we've not gone ahead with these. If the North Stand is expnded they'll have to move City Square and the store I think so once that decision is made then presumably the final shape of the collar site will be known.

I did see a high-level plan for the site, which I think did cover the area behind the North Stand where City Square is now and I also understand the ADUG or NEM were talking to potential development partners a while ago but no idea if anything came of these discussions. I suppose it's possible that the Holt Town housing investment was seen as a better option.
