Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

Firstly. Thanks for all the kind comments. I'm more than happy taking pictures for BM (and SSC) forum members. :-)

Another step forward in the expansion of the South Stand has been reached. Guessing. The back walls of the stand are being put in place.

Apologies for the quality, but I used my camera phone.

BTW, did anything else happen tonight? ;-)

Yes the roof came off the rest of the ground in injury time

JRB's excellent input on this thread should forever be recognised.

Agreed! Maybe the club should also acknowledge it as they check the forum out every day!

This too, but the club can't be bothered to check the official site, after the EDS none information debacle yesterday !

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

Some time ago there was talk of a sports science facility being built on Grey Mare Lane somewhere near the new college, anyone know if this is still in the pipeline?

No dates or location as such, but...

The Beswick Community Hub is an on-going project with limits that extend well beyond the Leisure Centre and Connell College. In the future, Beswick will also be home to the Manchester Institute for Sports Science and Sports Medicine, a Commercial Office Development, including the House of Sport, and more commercial retail opportunities for the area.

The Manchester Institute for Sports Science and Sports Medicine
The Manchester Institute is set to be a state of the art facility providing a world class environment for sports science and sports medicine research.
The Institute, which will support elite footballers, national athletes and the high performance local sports community, will provide a range of services including:

treatment and rehabilitation centres,
research and development resources
assessment and diagnostic tools
indoor testing facilities
several research laboratories.

An investigation conducted by Manchester City Council found that such a ground-breaking sports facility will have numerous benefits for local academic, health and sports organisations when it comes into operation. From easier access to enhanced diagnostics and rehabilitation facilities for elite sportsmen and women, to the necessary provisions for the development of Manchester’s young athletes and the improvement of the physical health and wellbeing of the community on a whole, The Manchester Institute will be an asset to everyone.

The answer would seem to be in here:

In the last paragraph it mentions something like an injury institute. Can't remember what exactly they called it, but it seemed to be what you were asking about.

I really enjoy all your photographs but this one is truly stupendous.

Aye - great work agent JRB - much appreciated.

Meanwhile over on ManCon, this little titbit has been mentioned re East Manchester:

“An announcement before Christmas will be testament to Abu Dhabi's belief in Manchester.”

This is from an article on Graphene, but was said by Eddie Smith - full link here:

http://www.manchesterconfidential.c...Is-The-New-Cotton-Eddie-Smith-In-Conversation

During the business breakfast, Smith also went on to discuss the impact of Abu Dhabi's acquisition of Manchester City FC and the knock-on effects for East Manchester.

Smith said it was 'a pivotal moment' in the history of Manchester.

"We have found an owner who is totally committed to the regeneration of East Manchester," said Smith. “They have got a value base that is so in sync with the city council, they are committed to the community and ensuring they are a fantastic neighbour and they recognise that challenges are still there in respect of education, health and employment and things that they have a responsibility to help change.

“They bought the club in September 2008 and we made an approach to them in the October to build their training centre in East Manchester and they went with it. The relationship has gone from strength to strength and it has led them to investing £1bn to transform the residential market in that area of the city.

“An announcement before Christmas will be testament to Abu Dhabi's belief in Manchester.”

Also got to mention the Etihad (both inside and out) looked stunning on TV last night - that's without the finished expansion, CFA (not shown) and any collar site 'goings on'. Blessed is the word.
