Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

There's been discussion for quite a while over what to do with gasometers. As far ago as 1999, there were plans to dismantle virtually all of Britain's gasometers within a decade: <a class="postlink" href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/264609.stm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/264609.stm</a>

That didn't happen, but last November National Grid "revealed plans to demolish 76 gas holders at a cost of £79m" - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/10474246/Gasometers-under-threat-of-demolition.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/news ... ition.html</a>

The two at The Oval cricket ground in south London are the most famous, and they've been decommissioned and a planning application may be made to demolish them - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/oilandgas/10597517/End-of-an-innings-Time-called-on-Oval-landmark.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/news ... dmark.html</a>

I thought the rumour was that the one at the top of the north car parks might now be developed into apartments, like this one in Dublin (thought I'd seen it on this thread, actually) - <a class="postlink" href="http://armchairtravelogue.blogspot.ru/2009/06/dublin-gasworks-apartments-alliance.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://armchairtravelogue.blogspot.ru/2 ... iance.html</a>

I know that a few years ago, there was actually an idea to make a feature of it at Eastlands, by putting a giant football in it, but they evidently ditched that before anything was made public.

(That's not a joke, by the way!).

After City Square and the yet to be seen City Circle, what about City Cylinder!

Time for some 3D action. It is the future.

I cannot see any indication the gas holders are listed on the key heritage websites. Tear it down or use the superstructure for something exciting. That said William Gadd from Manchester invented it.

The gas holders could be converted into an IMAX cinema. Perfect size and shape.

Went up to the stadium at lunch for a shufty at the south stand works...

South East Corner
[bigimg]http://stevenicklin.com/images/city/a1.jpg[/bigimg]

Removal of rear panels
[bigimg]http://stevenicklin.com/images/city/a2.jpg[/bigimg]

Notice the protection around the bottom of the left hand cable
[bigimg]http://stevenicklin.com/images/city/a3.jpg[/bigimg]

The missing front piece of the roof
[bigimg]http://stevenicklin.com/images/city/a4.jpg[/bigimg]

Not sure what these are - either lifted out or about to go in...

South West Corner

Complete panels missing with large holes onto the concourse

Sorry if this has been asked before, but will the work affect the attendance next season. If not, how are they going to do the work and still keep the stand usable?

I can't see the price of scrap metal being a factor, looks very flimsy to me.

Depending on when that was taken there were some seats in the mddle of the south stand removed to make an easier access route to the pitch for standing (happens for all concerts)

Yes it's been asked before, no it won't a few seat affected but not many. The majority of the construction is external around the current structure with the two close seasons used to do the internal work During next close season the current roof is removed Check back in this tread for the schedule of work and the OS for a video of the planned work

Airviews have updated their pictures of the bridge.

Great aerial shot of the mini-Etihad.

(can't post the picture as I'm on my mobile)

I think it will a bit - we know the very back row of the south stand has become "unavailable"
And certain end of row seats in the first tier
And the front row in certain parts of the stadium

I can see us being 1,000 seats down to be honest....
