Is that an electronic ad hoarding going up around the rim of the 2nd tier?

Yes. Looks like it's going around level 2. Wonder what that means for all the flags?

It's in place in front of the Colin Bell stand but is going all the way around level 2.

Certainly looks like electronic advertising boards, just hoping it's going to have "Platiinni is a ****" on a loop around the stadium.

Imagine how the Etihad is going to look with 1 additional tier(and 4 video screens, 1 in each corner) on each end. (not to mention even more empty seats :wink2: )

I hope the new advertising boards going around the second tier will be replicated and be placed all around the pitch too. I always hate it when in front of the CB they don't have any, but the other three stands have them. Looks weird for me.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Because it looks weird to you isn't really a good reason to have them there.

It's because the cameras don't face that way.

Then why would they place them around the whole of the second tier? I agree my reasoning isn't enough for them to be all the way around the pitch, but then I'm an aesthetically pleasing kinda guy, and slightly OCD, so do forgive me.

must admit that's the first time i've seen that done before? unless i've missed something at another ground.

i'm sure one of our intrepid bluemooners will know otherwise.

in any case, clever marketing.

You all may be right about this vertical band being for electronic advertising however I have it on good authority that it is to enable a 'Wall of Death' motor cycle track similar to the smaller one that used to be part of the old Belle Vue Amusement Park.

I also understand that it may be used to advantage if the cyclists at the Velodrome increase their speeds to such an extent that the centripetal force (or is it centrifugal ?) they generate causes them to fly off at a tangent.

No pictures yet but a tunnel from the Velodrome is under construction allowing the riders to reach very high speed at Velodrome then enter the Etihad to use this horizontal 'cycle track'.
I understand Mr Blatter got the idea from the Swiss based Cyclotron which uses a similar system to discover new atomic particles by bombarding a target with high velocity particles.

As part of the FFP compromise it will be named the 'Blattertrack'.

The explanation for the electronic hoarding is simple. the new fans need the lyrics of city songs for a karaoke style sing along. Though it might be best to put asterisks in some of the choicer lyrics

I'm guessing it's mikeskitz's fault for posting pics turned through 90° but I think you'll find it's a horizontal band, not vertical.
Oh, and it's centripedal force.

Thanks Colin,

I must apologise for my limited knowledge of geometry and physics that caused the errors you rightly point out.
I have never been part of a Forum before where the members are so helpful in correcting posts to ensure that the originals convey the maximum integrity.

I cannot yet start a thread (Mods say a minimum of 100 posts) so I may occasionally post seemingly unnecessarily, this is merely to get me to that century of posts.
