Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

the current roof is angled upwards from back to front - this is what lets the noise out
the new roof at either end will be angled downwards from back to front - this will help keep the noise in

Been on site a few times recently and I have to say it's quite impressive. We fit the underwater treadmills and got to say though, bit greedy having 2

One of the things I forgot to add is that the stadium roof is currently designed to absorb noise. It is designed so that noise at one end can't be heard at the other. If you look up you will see thousands of holes in the roof cladding ( not leaks) - this is being changed on the 2 ends so that the noise will be reflective. Will make a huge change to the stadium acoustics.

What a shit design for a football stadium stadium....is that really true?
Yeah it's all to do with the original design for the games in 2002, also the reason why the roof slopes, but with the designs it seem that the architects have definitely thought about it, its also the only reason I can see the E&W sides done within a 10ish years to redo the roofing and have it uniformed all the way around

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Surely the roof slopes front to back so the rain runs off - without the need for ugly pipe work inside the roofline?
If the acoustics were right a backward sloping roof would focus any noise into the bowl.

The rain will be pumped from front to back if i remember correctly. They do this at emirates too.

I am sure i remember reading when the stadium was built that it was designed to keep the noise in and stop it escaping,so improving the atmosphere.

Mark Hughes said that when Aguero scored that goal that he had never hear a noise so loud ever in all his time involved in football.Considering his career that was some endorsement.

No they have a special pipe system called siphonic that allows the pipes to be laid flat...works similar to a vacuum toilet.

Reality is, you make more noise, it gets heard. I think the ground can be bouncing but some games it is duller than Maine Road ever was

I remember the Hamburg home quarter final 2nd leg and it was an incredible atmosphere, the ground was buzzing that day and the noise stayed in and echoed around the ground. If they can make it even better and keep it in, reverberating off the roof and down onto the pitch then it will be epic and would be even better if they split the lower two tiers into away and keep the top tier as city only (which i don't believe they are planning on doing as per the illustrative drawings)

That aerial shot once again really brings home how much undeveloped land there is surrounding the stadium.

Does anyone know if the 3rd crane is complete yet?(inc arm)

I'm holding on until it's complete and then I'm going to do my final set of pictures before the season starts.(don't worry, more pictures to follow throughout the season)

Thanks for all the snippets from Twitter, Facebook, and all in the inside info. ;-)

JRB I went through Ashburys on the train on Monday and the 3rd crane looked complete, but it was quite a distance out

Thanks.

Might nip down tomorrow EDS. If not Thursday, but the weather looks a bit mixed.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Was there this morning, the cranes were all up & operational. The steelwork at the back of the south stand is being assembled, I would say that 2 bays are in situ,

The undeveloped land on the above pic - is that where the 'attraction' is supposed to be being built?
Doesn't look big enough for anything too substantial - wasn't there talk of 6m visitors a year? Nowhere near enough land to get that many people in.

Why are they all expected on the same day??

Now that would have to be something incredible, the National Gallery, London 6.03m.... Natural history Museum gets 5.3m a year.... Tower of London 2.8m..... like I hope Mansour has some crazy big ideas for the land...
