Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

It's been demonstrated beyond any doubt that what happened at Hillsborough was not caused by standing.

The fundamental problem with safe standing is that no politician wants to get the negative headlines about disrespecting the victims of Hillsborough etc etc for something that isn't that important and not that many people (overall) care about. It's not worth the hassle. So they won't do it.

Yes it's safe, yes it would be good. But you can see the headlines now.

^^^^^ Exactly!
The lib dems included it in there manifesto last week

Exactly. Strangely, banning South Yorkshire police doesn't seem to have been on the political agenda even though they were far more to blame than the existence of terraces.

I wish I had the time to trawl through the pages and I know that Asda are moving, but the bloke who was doing the tour today (I took a Japanese student staying with us, and yes he has been converted!!) said that we had bought them out and it was going to be a hotel and casino...anyone else heard that? I've read many times that we won't be opening a casino on the collar site, but not this...also that the new site isn't going to open until November 1st.

Seems to me that South Yorkshire Police are incompetent at just about everything.

Yes it's a good job they're not investigating Cliff Richard or anything, what with the loss of confidence in the establishment over paedophile scandals.

Oh wait.

That's why I said a few posts earlier that there is no chance of the law being changed any time soon.

Tbf there is a lot of support for it politically from MPs in all parties. The welsh assembly were also in favour it when it was debated a few weeks ago. I would think the police are the major obstacle.

Yes, but the two major parties do not currently support it and I believe it's for the reasons Henkeman stated.

Labour and Conservatives are never going to consider it seriously whilst neither of them are the dominant party.

Come on chaps. This thread is all about the redevelopment of the Etihad and the academy. You are all getting side tracked by the politics of standing areas. Although this subject is very slightly relative to the future of the stadium, it is not remotely relevant to what's going on now. I want pictures of the development and discussion about that. Not speculation about standing areas. That belongs on a separate thread.
