Looks like season starts weekend of the 8th August.
Might be old news but the FA have just released their set of fixtures for next season.

Trying to think back to previous Euro years, has it ever been this early before?

Ah. The good old banana route.

Do they still run?
Apparently so, just cheked GM Travel, Cheetham Hill to Salford via The Etihad and the Swamp.
Used to get the 53 from Grey Mare Lane to Old Trafford to watch Lancashire when I was a kid, that seemed a hell of a journey aged 11.

I'd say they've been painted.

grey would off been undercoat, the black final finish(would guess also it would be fire resistant finish, which is usually done on site)when in position..

Wonder if they're doing the whole stadium in black then? Would be weird to just do one end?

Very dark grey not black last I looked

That pic above from 2000 is after they'd done remediation work to allow construction to go ahead for the Commonwealth Games. If you want to see what it was like before that work and after all the industry had gone, then here's a pic from 1997 (thanks to City fan Macca on Twitter, an absolute must follow for all Blues on there - @The_Paris_Angel).

It's like a scene from downtown Detroit.

To get your bearings, below is an old map with the modern location of the stadium and athletics arena superimposed. I believe Macca's photo is looking north up Forge Street, which obviously no longer exists:

That 1997 photo looks like a fake to me I'd say that is a modern day photo of the Langworthy estate.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

I remember back in 1999 I was a quantity surveyor working for Laing and I had to go and do a site survey of the area. It was grim and depressing and I was gutted we were leaving Maine road. There was a fox in an old factory just walking around. Probably somewhere near where the singing section in the corner is now.

Can't wait to see the progress before the saints game - most of the seats will be fitted by now.

If you're going to plagiarise my comedy genius at least leave it a couple of pages.

Great pics Imber50.

It's amazing how they've achieved the smooth "sweep" of the roof between the existing stands and the extension to the SS.

For the building engineers amongst us, is this as difficult as it looks? Looks pretty impressive (to my untrained eye) how they've maintained the clean roof lines between the old and new..

I've got an engineering background and yes, that's impressive. It's probably a whole lot easier nowadays with computers and CAD/CAM but it's still pretty cool.

I agree that they've done a good job of marrying up two very different roof lines but for me this is one of the least pleasing aesthetic aspects of the expanded stand. I only hope that one day the East and CB stands are expanded to create a more uniform roofline.

Whilst I'm at it can someone explain why they kept the old masts /cables sticking out of the back of the south stand. I thought these were to hold up the existing (old) roof but they're obviously integral to the new design too.

They are still helping to hold up the old roof, and will be removed when they remove the old roof.

According to this image these masts will remain in place - indeed the design (with them sticking out of the windows) seems to specifically incorporate these within the construction
