Sorry to upset fellow blues but from my experience alot of the journo's/photographers basically everybody who works at the media side of City are either:

Non city fans
Don't actually like football...
or sadly: have been utd fans.

Huge ferret being one... isn't he southampton?
The irish presenter girl, shes a rag.

Does no-one actually check their facts on the OS? The only home derby in 1987 was the pre-season Manchester International Tournament in which we lost 3-1 on the first night and definitely didn't get anything like 40,000, let alone 48,619.

The only derbies in 1987 were the January FA Cup 3rd Round ((lost 0-2), both at the Cesspit.

That's piss poor to be fair

The two go hand in hand. Re. rags, this place is like London and the rat population. You're never more than three feet from one.

So is Kelly O'Donnell. The main cameraman/director for City TV is a Spuds fan.

That's what I'm saying, so don't be surprised if journo's posting on mcfc.co.uk don't have a clue about our history and so on as they aren't big anoraks like Gary James or somebody.
It's a shame not all staff will be diehard blues but thats just the way the world is.
The cameraman who is apparently a spurs fan is a superb cameraman, doesn't make him any worse.
As is the Irish girl who may be a rag, she does great at her job.

Taken from the OS. =

The Etihad expansion programme which has been underway for all the 2014/15 season and over the summer months is set to attract record numbers to the stadium during 2015/16.

Though an exact figure is not possible to calculate at this point due to on-going work and repositioning of the scoreboard, it is expected that City’s new capacity will be approximately 54,500.
Along with the 6,000 new seats created by the South Stand’s third tier, up to 1,500 new seats have been added to the front of each stand around the stadium.
That means there will be approximately 7,500 new seats added to 47,500 capacity the Blues inherited when the Club relocated to what was then the City of Manchester Stadium back in 2003.
It is almost certain that when City take on Chelsea in August, the current Etihad Stadium attendance record of 47,435 – set when the Blues took on QPR in May 2012 - will be comfortably surpassed.
In turn, any gate of 49,000 or more would top the 48,619 that attended the 1987 Manchester derby at Maine Road.
The last home crowd to top 50,000 was when City faced the Reds in October 1981 with 52,037 fans packed in to watch a dull 0-0 draw.
=============================================================================================================================
I imagine that due to "segregation" our capacity will be about 54,200. Previously the capacity of CoMS was always said to be 47,725(although above they say 47,500) and with a sell out against QPR we did reach our current record of 47,435.
I will be really chuffed if the gate against Chavs is over 53,000 - but it will be August(hols etc) and which day it will be played - Sat -Sun - Mon night.
IMO it might be Sun 4-00pm K O.

No idea what the official gate was v Everton in the fa cup ? Was around that time but there was more than that the kippax was rammed that night.
I was told by the turnstile man to come back when I'd made a fiver look like a ticket, which I did and jumped the turnstile
Just seen 52,532 official gate

Biggest crowd I remember at Maine road was vs Liverpool in fa cup quarter final - think we lost 4-0.

Went down to stadium today - was surprisingly quiet.

Official gate for that one was just over 44K - http://bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/History/Matches/Match.aspx?id=3774

As mrtwiceaseason says, the Everton gate for the '81 QF replay was at almost exactly the official 52,600 capacity of the time, but there were probably several thousand more in the ground than that. The Charlton promotion game in 1985 was absolutely rammed as well (comfortably in excess of the official capacity, I'd wager), despite the official attendance figure being 47,285.

The official site derby presumably means the 1985/6 derby, which was the last Maine Road crowd above 48K.

Spot on the 48,619 was at OT not City, and we lost 1-0 in the cup not 2-0.
Looks like something was lost in my previous edit - Whiteside got an injury-time 1-0 winner in the Cup game (if memory serves we had one disallowed earlier in the second half). Can't remember much about the 2-0 loss two months later, although I'm confident a certain Mr Stapleton would have scored against us yet again.

Yes there were a lot more in than 53,000 for the Everton game I was one of them.why would the o/s not mention that match ?
Thinking about it if they always used to say there was less in than there was and they gave it at 53,000 how many must have been in ?
