According to someone on here, the corners are 'temporary' (semi permanent) as there's a possibility that the CB and East Stands may also see some expansion work in the future, and a whole new roof structure would be put in place.
So, the current corners aren't perfect, but it would be throwing money away to over engineer the roof at this point.

How accurate this story is, remains to be seen, but it sounds pretty plausible. You can clearly see that to 'smooth out' the curve of the roof would require new roof work extending into the CB and East Stands, which would mean more disruption and expense.

It's in the design doc and has also been confirmed to users on here by people at the club.

Can anyone explain what are the benefits for the new floodlight gantries than the old ones which were perhaps a better and more 'flush' fitting. Obviously not done on a whim, can anyone ahem shed some light on this?!

The new lights also conform to the new standards set out by UEFA for Champions League competition.

I think someone put up an explanation of why the corners are as they are - something to do with enabling the expansion of the East and CB stands.

The roof in the corners connecting the east and CB stands are a temporary (25 year year life span) construction. Able to be removed if/when the club want to extend the stands to fill in the corners making it a complete bowl. The head guy from Laing O'Rourke said this when on the tour.
