Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

Expanding the stadium to 80,000, and try lowering the price to German game prices would be brilliant for our club and our fans. It would also lead to more merchandise, food and drinks sold. and surely would be of help to get the most cash out of our sponsers.

as a side we would put pressure on the rest of the clubs to reduce their prices.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

There are probably technical issues with expanding to 80K. I don't know that for certain, but I would imagine the challenges increase as capacity increases, especially for a stadium that's already used up one of it's planned capacity increases, and is undergoing another right now.

Lowering ticket prices would be fantastic, and whilst match day revenue is only a relatively small part of our overall income, FFP does push us to maximise our revenues. Personally, I believe direct subsidy / discount of fan tickets should be an exemption from FFP, just like infrastructure spend it.
If it's benefitting the fans, UEFA should reward it. Ideally, even offer incentives to do so (i.e. lower prices by 10%, get 10% more allowance for transfers... or something along those lines).

I'm sure City have looked at the market for City tickets and the cost / benefit of expansion and aimed for the sweet spot. In another 5 years they might take another look and expand again, which I feel is the more sensible approach overall.

A few readers will see this another of my 'digs' at City, but I think 80K is a stretch too far right now, but with continued success, it's something to aim for.

It's an unattainable pipe dream. City have had the chance to go down this route, but have instead adopted the top 4 model (besides some nice cup prices). The Premier League is driven by greed. If a club makes £100m profit, they want to make £150m profit. If they make £150m profit, they want to make £200m profit. Enough is never enough, so we won't see the German model here unless the bubble bursts and it becomes more reliant on the working class again. I'd love it though and have wished for the same thing. A stadium where anyone can afford to go, that for me is how English football was. 70,000 to 80,000 local people in the Etihad would be great.

It's in the club's interest to make the stadium as big as possible. Logistically it will be extremely congested getting 80k fans to the ground. Fans will HAVE to plan journeys and get to the ground early-earlier than usual thus providing the ideal opportunity to partake in everything the club can offer. Imagine an expanded City Square with bars the entire length of the stand? The potential to capitalise on increased supporter numbers is, ahem, massive! :)

80,000 would only be attainable if matchday prices were to dropped, and if reached i think our profits as a club would shoot through the roof

Absolute nonsense.
It's in the clubs interests to choose the optimal capacity. Not the biggest.
Do you really think if we built a 200K capacity stadium we'd be better off as a result? no. We'd actually be a laughing stock, and will have wasted money.

Unless of course your smiley is suggesting sarcasm in your post! in which case, ignore the above!

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

For quite some time its being pretty commonly understood that the club would like to go to 80k (or close to it).

The plans are there, the money is there, the desire is there all that needs to be proven is that the need is there.

I deliberately dont say demand as its not just about MCFC match day but about other big events too.

I think it will happen, just not before the collar site is done.

No sarcasm intended. And how do you know 80k, for example, isn't the optimum capacity? Maybe it's more.
Even if the ground isn't full (like Barcelona's isn't) every week then the benefits of it being full maybe four times a season have got to be worthwhile. Or does it not work like that?
