Does an expanded stand need a full safety cert like a new stadium as if it does presumably we will need a test event with reduced capacity, so we will need a "home" fixture (friendly or the kids/womans team) before we can play any league games at home anyway?

Also I've heard the pitch side work has a very tight schedule this summer and if this is the case can only hope it doesn't rain as Lancs CC had trouble this season with part of the pitch as they had machinery on the outfield to finish a new stand and because the weather wasn't great while they were working and didn't have time to sort it properly afterwards it wrecked that part of the outfield and any rain would congregrate and not drain on the affected area. I'm sure we will have considered bad weather but if something like this happens to us I wonder what we'd do? Presumably there has to be a plan B for worst case scenarios? Play at the CFA, go Barnsley, or just give the keepers snorkel and flippers?

Construction work can almost always be completed to deadline if the right amount of money is put in - overnight, extra workforce, extra equipment etc

What you cant allow for is supplier materials being late though, architects and QS's have a knack of specifying materials that either a) dont exist or b) are on long lead times from factory.

The bain of the construction Industry !

Laing make 90% of the precast materials themselves in their own factory. Watsons steel will have all steel made by now. The pinch point is the pitch works and access to allow the contractor to remove the roof. Still willing to bet our first 2 games will be away.

Lets see if the interior fit out goes to plan, plenty of firms ive supplied who have worked on the interior fit outs in there were virtually sweeping shit up on the first home game!

Will this end not be complete in time for the rugby world cup?

surely they wouldn't have picked the Etihad to be a host stadium knowing there was going to be works going on around the ground!!

We only host one match and that is on the 10th October iirc.

There's only one game played outside Twickenham, England v Uraguay, its sold out already with a capacity of 53000.

Just to clarify - Is the one game away from Twickers - the one at The Etihad. ?
If so how has the 53,000 tickets been sold.?
I am guessing your answer will be - That the England Rugby Union WC have full control of selling.!
Just interested - Cheers!

Very true and to be fair we aren't building a new stadium, but I agree John and building an extension like we are can't be easy. Yet it comes across like that in my view because our owners pride themselves on having an impeccable reputation and go with the option that ensures it is maintained, all thanks to spending money proper.

Wembley was a fuck up on both sides if I remember corectly. William Hill were even taking bets as a result of the Wembley fuck up: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/5139864.stm .The media's coverage of our stadium expansion as purely been positive from what I have seen.

The Connell's helped to build the club and then they came along and knocked Maine road down

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

I find those demolition pics heart rending, to be honest. Yes, I know Maine Road was a dump at the end, and we couldn't turn down the chance to move to a brand new stadium. But I still miss the old place (spent my first 10 years on this earth about 5-10 minutes walk from the ground). So many memories. Granted, not all of them good. But, it was home for us. On the other hand; no new stadium = no HRH = no "Aguerooooo".

Work seems to progressing at a fair rate and looks to me like a very exciting part of the developmemt. Sadly jrb I think that your 4-5 week gab may miss it all. Would I be too cheeky in asking for sooner update? Not wishing to look a gift horse in the mouth!

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

Brilliant pictures kippax and thanks for taking the time to upload them. All progress reports are greatly appreciated.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

Not certain about this but did the current Etihad build program miss a deadline because of the non arrival of steel last year ?

It did but it was just relating to completion of temporary works - not critical to the overall works programme.

I think FFP meant we couldn't but a bid in for him ;-)
