Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

The back of the South Stand.

Even though the vents, etc, are visible in the pictures, they aren't as obvious when you see them with the naked eye. Obviously it won't be to everyone's taste, but that's what the Architects have come up with. Saying that, some people will like that kind of stuff. It certainly adds an industrial feel to the stand, and perhaps pays homage to a once industrial area of East Manchester.

Lucky you didn't get your collar felt when you took those!

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Threa

Anyone ever noticed that some of the grey concrete and tier supports have gone from being grey to black over the last couple of months? Anyone have an idea as to why?

We should rename the East Stand The Forge Lane Stand, since it sits exactly on it's old course.

And how about calling any "destination", which will sit parallel, The Forge...?

Recalls the history of the area and is quite a cool name to boot.

Just a thought...
What a great idea, we should start a campaign.

Thanks...

I'd say they've been painted.

grey would off been undercoat, the black final finish(would guess also it would be fire resistant finish, which is usually done on site)when in position..

HELP NEEDED

I wonder if anyone could provide a link to any good quality BEFORE and AFTER aerial photographs of the COMS/ Etihad site and environs? Preferably taken from roughly or even exactly the same view.

Needed for a work-related project.

Cheers

Google Earth has a history feature that has imagery back to 2000 for the stadium area.

Here's a screen grab from 31 Jan 2000

That's pretty cool, both the Google maps feature and the photo

Wonder if they're doing the whole stadium in black then? Would be weird to just do one end?

That pic above from 2000 is after they'd done remediation work to allow construction to go ahead for the Commonwealth Games. If you want to see what it was like before that work and after all the industry had gone, then here's a pic from 1997 (thanks to City fan Macca on Twitter, an absolute must follow for all Blues on there - @The_Paris_Angel).

To get your bearings, below is an old map with the modern location of the stadium and athletics arena superimposed. I believe Macca's photo is looking north up Forge Street, which obviously no longer exists:
