Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I completely agree with you here JRB.

I know it's new and has a wow factor because its tall/imposing and orientates the ground better to Ashton road (the only thing going for it) but I am actually completely underwhelmed by the stand as a whole.

I know the the masts are a necessary evil, but they look horrendous. Incidentally, in still not sure they have figured out the waterproofing detail where they pass through the glass/cladding either.

Worsley have you seen this detail on the plans?? or is it "to be agreed with the builder on site". ie the architect didn't have a clue when they were designing it so left it to be bodged later on. can't see why they would leave out doing it for so long when the rest of the facade has been done. which incidentally is very bland and uninspiring.

The corner sections don't work for me. it is the building equivalent of welding the back of a mini onto the front of a Ferrari. This surely could have been graded in more sympathetically with the East/west stand roof.

And now this concrete wall detail......like you say, is all about the detail. Especially at this 'level' of architecture. I agree that it would a lot better glazed and framed to match in with legends lounge, an opaque film applied it hide the staircase and the broom cupboard behind. again, am genuinely gobsmacked this has been sited here. Anyone want to put a figure on how much just one table of ten corporate would generate over a 50 year period, including concerts, Father's Day, rugby games, etc?

Overall very poor.

Couldn't disagree more. Shows it's all about opinions.

The roof supports looks miles and miles better than what most stadiums offer. The ones at the swamp for example are horrific and takeover the entire roof.

From the outside the stand also has more of a colosseum look compared to the generic glass building look of some other new stadium and will of course look even better when it is covered in player/history displays.

The concrete element in the home end.

Will that be a designated area for disabled fans and their wheelchairs? I was aware of criticism of the club, from a disabled supporters club that it wasn't being included in the new tier.

Would make sense as this cannot really be infront of glass hospitality suites due to obscuring the view.

Hopefully that's the case, most PL clubs provide far less than they are supposed to.

Got the train home tonight from Piccadilly and by the looks of it, all 3 exterior cranes are now gone! (It was only the South east crane and part of the huge one that was left but I couldn't see either of them tonight unless I was just being completely blind!)

Haha some people are never happy are they! We should of gone with this design instead......

Looks great!!

I know we are biased, but this is a fucking eyesore. Looks like the scaffolding has been left up.

No pal your not going blind the last crane was removed yesterday things are moving on at a pace now

Danny Wilson (Citys Marketing director) being interviewed inside the Etihad on SSN just now. New stand looks very impressive though clearly a heck of a lot of work to be done. Mentioned that the NS would only be developed once we are confident we would fill it, so doubtful they will plough on with the NS after the RWC finishes.

Also mentioned that the away fans are being kept in the SS after consultation with the fans, is that right? Thought the general consensus was we would prefer them to be moved and the SS becomes a City only end.

Good little piece on us overall though.

Mike Wedderburn - 'reporting from the cathedral of football is James Cooper' lol

How he ever got through the interviews for the job at that rag infested organisation I will never know. He must have deliberately withheld his blue affiliation to be our man on the inside!

New stand looking amazing already, can't wait for the season to start now.

I'm pretty sure they did do some kind of survey and the main reason was that those fans seated where the away fans could potentially go, were not willing to relocate so it was settled that they'd stay put. Though many want them moved, those seated in the alternate location have every right to want to keep their seat. (though they're still twats).

There was a vote and most fans wanted them to stay where they are now. There were a few reasons, including the atmosphere benefiting from them staying there & mainly the fact that no season ticket holders have to be moved to accommodate the change. The away fans will be across all three tiers though, they'll take up about half the amount they currently use in the bottom two tiers meaning more City fans in our end.

Nice to see I'm not entirely alone in not being overly enthused by the cladding. It's a minor point, and goes for much of the stadium exterior. Personally I think it could be much more polished.

They could do an awful lot with lighting to make the stadium look decent at night (although it's not too shabby now). It's amazing what can be done with creative lighting.

But back to normal / daytime viewing... and I'll get pelters for this... the sky blue hued artwork around the stadium has the effect of looking faded. Pale blue (not sky blue) has an insipid look against the concrete. It's a tricky one to resolve that, but worth getting right. If they're going to use blue, it has to be a fairly intense / saturated sky blue.

If they could clad the exterior in some backlight way, that could look pretty amazing, even in daylight (think the Allianze when it's lit up) - having some rings of 'electric' sky blue might just work.

Inside the stadium is a 9/10 (marred by the corners), inside the concourse is probably an 8/10 (by stadium standards) but the exterior is languishing at 7 (barring the East and CB stand main entrances which look the business.

Whoever gets the window cleaning contract - he's a made man!

A 7 behind which stadiums though? The Etihad looks miles better from the outside than most I've ever been to. It's certain miles beyond the Nou Camp.

Most modern stadiums are generic bowls and other newer stadiums look like glass office blocks. Wembley would barely look like a stadium if not for the arch.
