Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

This was mooted years back (Apollo Leisure were linked at one stage).
MEN rehashing an old story is not beyond the realms of imagination...but I suspect it would be good plan to grab folk into the area.

As far as I understand it, this is a bit different from the Apollo Leisure proposal. That was reported in the local business press as being for a hotel and casino complex, capable of hosting Las Vegas-style lounge concerts. This, if we believe what we read, is for a "potential mid-sized new venue" that will "host gigs and other shows", which I assume will be in the region of 6K to 10K. In other words, it will have a capacity somewhere between that of the Apollo (3.5K) and smaller than the Arena (over 20K).

The Council won't want to rival the Arena with another of similar size (this is what Leese and Edelman meant when they said at MIPIM that whatever is built at the Campus will complement what's already on offer in Manchester). And I know there's a feeling that Manchester misses out on quite a few acts who go to Liverpool or Leeds because they need something bigger than the Apollo but would only half-fill the Arena in Manchester.

The rumour several years ago was that they'd build something along the lines of the exhibition centre in Abu Dhabi, which is in use daily for conferences and the like, but can be configured to accommodate a 6K concert hall which hosts big names. That would have a logic to it in that it would potentially bring thousands of people to the Campus each day but maybe it's more expensive and thus harder to make a reality.

the stadium sells out almost every league game but some season ticket holders dont turn up or bother using the ticket exchange to sell them on? it is a bug bear for the club as well if you want the truth but how can they enforce people to sell their seat on for a game?
The answer maybe to add a condition to season tickets of a minimum of five none attendance without putting ticket on ticket exchange/resale. Put it up for exchange counts as attendance, sold or not.

One of the best things about them starting the North Stand will be them moving the screens to the South Stand corners, meaning those hokey corners will be covered up.

Don't think they fit - the ironwork supporting the temporary corners protrudes more than expected I seem to recall reading somewhere

The wheelchair users sat on levels two and three in the south stand corners might also not be too happy being behind a large screen....

When I go to Holland, Belgium & France they manage to build car parks under ground. Do they have better construction companies?

Undercroft parking is significantly more expensive than at ground level so generally avoided where possible. Even with apartments these days you are likely to see ground level parking courts rather than undercroft because of the costs of construction due to structural requirements when providing them.

The attendance is related to season tickets and the numbers we release. We could fill a North stand extension with season ticket holders easily but for a Cup game we might then have the problem we do now when these fans decide not to go for whatever reason. Best way to build our support is to expand the ground.

You're getting frustrated perhaps because it doesn't happen overnight. Clubs are built over generations. City fans didn't stop going when we were shi't but the generation of match going City fans grew old, and you see that now. It will take years to build up but it needs a ground big enough to take advantage.

We also need to be independent of the owner.

The best way to build our support is to make tickets affordable, especially for league games. I’m getting frustrated because they are making large parts of the ground corporate. There’s no point in expanding in my opinion if there’s loads of empty seats and loads of non city fans

I’m lucky enough to be given tickets from time to time in some of these corporate/ more expensive sections and they are full of tourists and opposition fans.... I don’t want that tbh and we may get bigger crowds, but large sections of that crowd won’t be city fans. Champions league games being surrounded by opposition fans is awful.

If we expand just make it affordable for locals and everyone, rather then just chase corporates - one of the main reasons why we have empty seats imo.
